So what is his actual role ?
I genuinely would like to know.
When we signed him and we all go excited and thought
we had the creative midfield attacking player we lacked , after a couple of months when it was clear he wasn't and we were told don't be silly it's because we are playing him as a defensive midfielder.
If we are still playing him as a defensive midfielder he is doing a pretty poor job.

I have asked before but no one seems to answer, what is role and what does he do that has any positive effect on the team ?

I think that is the main problem, not just with him but with macarthur and puncheon. During our good spell last seafon, Cabaye and macarthur stayed defensive, shielding the back four, and puncheon played behind the forward. Under pardews new system, I really don't think any of them know what their role is. They don't seem to know wether to defend or attack, and are so often out of position.the best game cabayes had was against man c, where he did stay just in front of the back four.

I have a little bit of sympathy for central midfielders brought on in the heat of the second half. For me it's been one of the main reasons for us shipping goals towards the end of the game.

But for Hull's second the midfield as a whole has to do better to stop the pass into the feet of the striker; Ledley gets dragged out so far to the left and Cabaye doesn't go to plug the gap. Neither Ledley or Cabaye are intelligent enough to play in defensive mid.

How you can't blame Cabaye for the third is beyond me, he practically skates away from Livermore as he runs at him. Delaney is also at fault for charging out and leaving a gap.

I blame Dann and Ledley (for the 2nd and 3rd respectively) a little less because them getting beaten is more down to their lack of pace/explosiveness. I think it was a great turn from Diomande and Ledley is not quick enough to catch Livermore for the give and go.

I think the formation also played a role in conceding both goals, I didn't think we needed to change to 5 at the back.

Tompkins was injured on Friday, otherwise I think he would have played the same team as against Southampton, where we had a clean sheet.
Although Dan did not tackle for the second he was on a yellow card..and let's be fair that f***ing ref would have given another pen and sent him off.

Personally I think play ledley and Jimmy mac in front of Tompkins, Dan and Damon, push cabaye further up,punch out left wilf right ...sorry townsend has done nothing to warrant a place in that team, then we might see cabaye shine a little.

Then again, that doesn't fit some people's narrative on here.

My take as well on that goal. Another example of switching off at a critical moment when defending which has hurt us a number of times this season. he should of kept going rather then stop and look. I was surprised not to see Pard's starting Cabaye which would not of been the right decision in my opinion. Substitution was forced.

I am most disappointed in Dann at the moment. Since he has come back from injury he has been far from the force he was when we were calling for him to have England recognition. He has seemed a yard off the pace and has his marking and tackling has not been to his usual standard. Perhaps the problem has been coming back into a team who had started leaking goals and lost confidence.

As others have said McArthur was carrying an injury and needed to come off. Was the Campbell substitution also dodgy?

Yohan Cabaye was at fault for two goals today due to being a lazy git.....McArthur is so important - when he was subbed we lost our cover in front of Dann and Delaney.....Another dodgy substitution by Pardew

Oh stop it . The guy is on £80k a week , supposed to be our star player , does nothing to help the team .
Everyone seems to want to scapegoat Hennessey , Ward or Delaney etc, freely enough while Cabaye is going through 'a bad patch' or is 'carrying a knock'
that's been for over a year now , a bit of criticsm is fair.
As for his good game against City , did you not see his free kicks? Did you not see their second goal when he just switched off. I could do the same for £80K a week.

I saw that MKCPFC lazy play and Toure scored unmarked because Benteke had been taken off.

Dann is bullied and nutmegged for the 2nd and that's Cabaye's fault?
On the 3rd Livermore approached Ledley passed it off ran round him for the return while he stood there and that's Cabaye's fault? Cabaye and Dann couldn't risk sticking out a foot, so totally not to blame here.
You can criticise Cabaye for lack of impact on a game, passing backwards or sideways, but you can never question his work rate or commitment.
The need for a scapegoat is clearly a mental security blanket type of thing I assume.

Well said. Cabaye is becoming the scapegoat for everything that is going wrong. With Punch suspended on Wednesday we'll need him.

No Pardew is the scapegoat.Cabaye does not deserve to be in the first 11.Plus we rarely win with him on the pitch at 90 minutes.
He strolled around yesterday when he came on watch the goals.

Reading this thread, no one until now has said Ledley, Jimmy Mac and Cabaye should be the middle three - I agree with you. I've also been banging on that until the Jan window Tomkins, Dann, Delaney and Ward need to be the back four. Pardew finally did that for the Saints game. Shame Tomkins was injured yesterday, let's hope he is fit for Wednesday? Puncheon for Townsend with Wilf and Benteke would then make the best / balanced team we can put out at the moment in my opinion?

Puncheon suspended after Jones booked him for "looking at me in a funny way".
