I just don't get it with Fryers. Either the guy's good enough to play left-back - in which case start him as he is actually left-footed and plays in that position, or if he isn't then why are we bringing him on? Just in the hope he can put in a decent cross (when we have an England international winger on the bench?).

Who, despite being left-footed, apparently doesn't like playing on the left, and when he is forced to, sulks and spends his time looking for coins in the grass.

One really cant be certain of the handball or offsde, because one cant be certain of the excellent referees view of the incident at that particular moment in time. Of course some referees very occcassionally make an error in judgement but should not be 'pilloried ' or 'harangued' for their decision, as of course like many pundits or indeed commentators they do not have the benefit of 'hindsight' or indeed "slo-mo" replays.

I shall make no further comment on the matter as i dont wish to turn this into another WILLO thread.

Thanks

Trolley.

It was a definite handball which presumably the ref could not see. It was a marginal offside which the lino got wrong. Sometimes refs do see offences which they don't blow up for, like Saturday's ref and the pen for Benteke he should have given. I think he knew he was wrong to give Hull their pen, had evened things up with the Wilf, and reckoned enough was enough. Last night's ref clearly lost it in the second half when he didn't give Man U a pen for handball. I think must have known by then that the Man U goal should not have stood, and - once again - was trying to even things up.

Agree with this , and let's not forget let's bring on Fryers and see if he can get another cross in like he did at Sunderland.

Fryers and Ledley as substitutions make sense. Flamini probably was injured, and wouldn't last out the 90 minutes anyhow. Fryers, is a decent wingback option, and most importantly a defender - Plus both in theory protect the back four and keep pressure in midfield.

What makes no sense, is Campbell for McArthur. Campbell for Beneteke, yes, to go as a lone striker, with Zaha dropping back into midfield.

But taking off a more 'defensively minded player', at 1-1, with about eight minutes likely on the clock, to bring on a poor striker, only seems to be a last throw of the dice at winning a game, which we had no real chance of winning, where as going for the point makes all the sense (even bringing on one of the kids into midfield just to block up numbers and give you 'a sacrifice' pawn makes sense).

Of course that sub probably doesn't affect the goal, but it should affect how we see Pardew's reasoning. A point from that game would ease the pressure, making a decision like that pangs of desperate gamblers, who are trying to make up their losses, but betting on the high odds, rather than keeping what they have left.

A lot of us old school have an affection for AP
I cant really call him super Al at present especially after seeing this stat record below!

Perhaps it's time to go but am very saddened that his legendary status is dwindling rapidly

Facts dont lie eh?

I don't usually vent on here but...

Burnley away:- 2-1 up, take off MacArthur we lose 3-2.
Swansea away:- 4-3 up,take off MacArthur we lose 5-4.
Hull away:- 2-1 up, take off MacArthur we draw 3-3.
Tonight:- 1-1 with Utd with minutes to go take off MacArthur and within seconds we concede and lose 2-1.
Now call me stupid but I think I can see a pattern here but apparently the manager cannot.

If the ball had been a bit higher he would have just nodded it in unchallenged. We have learnt nothing about defending free kicks. We dont have one defender of Prem standard

..just like saying if McArthur's shot had been an inch more to the left of their keeper and anyway they're paying massive huge amounts of dosh for this player to be able to do this and that and how about our players making the pass to this individual more difficult to the extent that he needed to use his hands to control it...then it was offside anyway, so they did defend well didn't they.

Moan.u had to use two feet to stop our attacks, also disguised shirt pulling and shoulder nudges, very professional they were with their defending, the ref was the worse we have had to endure and the best that moan.u could have had to help them build up a nice head of steam, you need to rewatch the game in order to see their nice touches off the ball, ref was too easily fooled.

Spot on. Makes no sense unless Pards believed Campbell could score again late like Saturday. Also I think he was desperate to beat Man Ure after the Cup Final and therefore threw the dice.
