That's rewriting history to suit the current mood. It was Dougie's team, the majority of whom was still forming the backbone of our first team in the Premiership and we were flying into one of the automatic promotion spots when he left and there is no reason at all why that run of form wouldn't have continued.

It's not rewriting history, it is what happened. You are implying that we would have carried on as we had if Dougie had stayed. You are ignoring our poor start and the goals we were shipping

We carried on the good form for the rest of the year and it was only around March time we started a wobble. Are you saying that wouldn't have happened at some stage in the season with any other manager including Freedman? I have seen nothing in his subsequent career to suggest that wouldn't have been the case. You are also forgetting the alleged conversation in the car park.

Dougie certainly has an eye fro a player, manager though? the jury is still out

I've never really believed in that alleged conversation in the car park. How did the discussion get into the public domain as neither Parish nor Freedman would have spread the stories around.

SP since 2010 generally has been and still is doing a great job for this club. The good news is that since that date the club has reached new horizons and is now at the critical mass point where the club is now outgrowing its structure and therefore SP needs to step back from football matters and appoint a first class director of football who has all the right contacts that are necessary to attract quality players to the club. The director of football 9who would have already been a successful coach himself) could plan any future succession planning and oversee the manager/head coach helping with advice on tactics and team selection. This could also help in the AP situation because he could either accept the change of structure and his new reporting line or resign in which case that may reduce any compensation that may be due to him!

Think people forget that Parish used to attend most games and still speaks to the people he used to sit with/ know personally. He's quite candid with info. Would have been even more open back then without the media circus that is the PL buzzing around the clubs every movement.

Perhaps, but he's a shrewd businessman and therefore knows that one doesn't run down the senior management in public

That is why we are in the difficulties that we in, the key is finding the right person and the chairman is not the right person! it work very well at many clubs not least of all at Southampton!

Les Reed is their 'Director of football'. He has in-depth details of many coaches/managers in Europe and Claude Puel was chosen after 3 intense interviews.

On the scouting front they have what they term the 'Black Box' and their player analysis is detailed and first class.

He is really risking losing the faith of a chunk of Palace fans here. No one wants that to happen but when you're keeping Ego despite nearly everyone wanting otherwise (plus the two new investors who demand better rightly) and leading us to relegation then questions will be asked. We all know if he wasn't his mate and a hero from 1990 he'd be gone months ago.

I do think we need a football person but I don't think it should be a Director of Football and definitely not a former manager / coach, that brings all kinds of difficulties.

I keep reading and hearing how much Pardew is doing for the club behind the scenes, implementing a PL structure. Someone else should be doing that, leaving him to manage the team.

There is definitely a lack of football knowledge which is hopefully being rectified, as we often say, the scouting network seems invisible.

Well I disagree with your opinion, our difficulties we are in at the moment are player and manager errors on the pitch.
