Well I agree Rudi, they should have got a LB in (I think most people wanted them to). I'm guessing they tried (and failed), but who knows with rumours.

But if you asked me in the summer what we needed most, it would have been a top-class striker (I love Wickham, but that's not him). I never thought we'd get Benteke, so I was, and am, thrilled.

Now when we lost Bolasie, I would have said a winger is priority #2. They got Townsend, and I was happy, because I didn't know he would be the invisible man.

As for Defence, I was happy with Tomkins, because my Hammer friends was really sad to see him go. I thought he'd be a good pairing with Dann, and could cover for Ward if he went down.

I think we actually looked strong defensively against Southampton with Ward on the left Dann, Damo and Tomkins on the right. Best we had looked in 10 games or so. Kelly looked ok on the right, so maybe we can make do with Ward on the left.

Jury is still out on Mandanda, but he looked to be having some trouble adjusting to set pieces in the Prem. But Hennessey is a good backup.

Overall I was pretty happy with our business. I didn't expect them to solve all our issues in one summer.

We're not a big enough club to have real quality sitting on the bench as backups, so I think there is a lot of balancing to do that the top clubs don't have to worry about. But I rate the job Parish has done, (focusing on getting the best bench players from other top flight teams rather than rolling the dice on Championship players), and I hope we'll strengthen the squad in January

Everyone connected to the club knew Ward had stepped in and performed ok at left back apart from Pardew who kept playing and destroying Kelly there for how many months. This is an example of how Pardew thinks. You think that, so what. I think this and that's what we'll keep doing. Not working? Keep doing it my way. Don't admit you're right. What a t1t. T1ts fly away or droop down in time.

More negative s***e from people who refuse to just support the team through a difficult time. Let the board get on with making any necessary changes if need be.

Lets be honest, over the last 4 years we'd probably be around mid-table. Yup, about as useless stat as the calendar thing. 1 season is all that counts.

lets put it in simplistic terms then 21 games left this season in PL and if we are to be sure of staying up we need to win 9 of them and draw another, that would give us the 43 points to be sure we are safe, 42 points have be relegated in the past!

Last seasons points might not count this season but it shows how few points we have achieved over a long period of time and how poorly (on the whole) we have been playing for a very long time.

But the other numbers (not obvious from OP) tell two different stories. Last season we scored 39 goals in the EPL but this we already have 28. Goals conceded were 51 now 32.

I think everyone knows what our problem was last season & that's been dealt with, however, the opposite is now an issue. We may have been poor in 2016 but it's not been a consistent kind of poor & that's what really frustrates.

The losing trend is one thing, letting in goals galore from Swansea, Hull and Burnley even worse. Would love to keep a (successful) manager for years to come, but Alan P. seems to have blown it. No pints at Vicarage Road ought to be the final nail in his coffin...

Completely agree with this. My issue with the whole Pardew in/out debate is consistency. Happy to disregard last season's results but in that instance I also don't regard the FA Cup or his first season's results as valid reasons to keep him.

Based purely on this season, 0.88 points a game will give us about 34 points over the season, which will virtually always end in relegation.

Yep, we need around a point a game this season.

Its looking very much like Hull, Swansea and one more. I don't think Hull have enough to get themselves out of this, and Swansea seemed to have been dying over the last few seasons and now are in Swan Song mode.

But unlike last season, there is every chance of us being that 'additional one'

Hull & Sunderland will go imo. I thought Moyes might turn it around but that depended on who he could get in during the transfer window. It would appear the bank of Ellis Short is shut.

Kirchhoff
Watmore
McNair
Cattermole

All out medium to long term.

Swansea, they still can turn it around, whether they will, who knows?

Sunderland have been getting some decent results and I think they may benefit from a transfer window. One thing is for certain any long term injury to Defoe and they're proper f**ked.

Swansea are Sigurdson away from relegation....

Good news is is that we are actually over-achieving under Pards because if we take the OPs logic to its full conclusion then after 4,000 games since 1905 our record states that we should actually be around 11th place in The Championship.
