When everyone was moaning before Pulis saved us from certain relegation I couldn't understand why anyone thought we could get better.

And I thought the same thing when BFS was touted as England manager. Why not? He's about England's level - especially if he can get us playing in a pragmatic fashion that gets results. But then he really disappointed me with that Rooney nonsense and then he gets caught on camera saying things a wise man in his position wouldn't

I'd rather a progressive, younger manager who would bet us playing like Bournemouth or Southampton, to be honest. But we are mid-season and I'm not certain this is moment to find one or take a gamble.

So I'm willing to be convinced. Maybe he'll surprise us - I remember Bolton playing some good football in their heyday. The other good thing is that he's got something to prove. And will not risk the opportunity, surely, on doing or saying something really stupid.

I agree, good post

His managerial stats show that he has achieved more wins/draws than losses with all clubs he's managed so that has to be a good start. The 'negative' label might arise from the stat that his teams tend to score less than they concede.

I know he use to play for Millwall, and I know with the Past England experience us taking him would just look 'desperate' , which we are really

But excluding this what is the problem? I personally think he should get the job, and now. Sam likes playing crosses and at times long balls. Our team is set for that sort of play, and he has proved he can make a team better at defending, and when we have the quality up front we will still score goals anyway. He has a great record of keeping teams up and that is what we need right now. He has proven he can make good transfers on prices that are quite low for football these days.

I think people need to put the benefit of the team first and not whether they like him or not, as I personally believe Sam will (if signed) give us a stepping stone to progress further on in the future

Not hate as such. Allardyce is a proven bottom half Premier League manager. We will be hard to beat and will stay up, but it won't be pretty. We have progressed so far over the past 3 years and Allardyce, to me, seems a step backwards.

Pardew was in the process of changing us to a possession team with the long term ambition of European football. The Allardyce style is about survival (he does it well to be fair) but won't progress us beyond that. Good for a survival scrap in the short term but he is only a temporary fix.

Pardew was the long term answer, could have been our Wenger/Ferguson if given more time. The football we were playing was good and the results, influenced by a terrible run of bad refereeing against us, were not not a true reflection of the way we were playing. Allardyce will keep us up this season but people will be on his back next season when we are playing boring football and languishing around 13/14th, he will leave and we'll be back at square one, looking for a new Pardew.

It's hard to understand why people don't want him to become Palace manager. He'll do well if appointed, will have us playing competitive football and we'll win as many as we lose. I was gutted when Pulis went if I'm honest and think that we'll be the same sort of team we were under him if Allardyce is in charge. If people dislike him because of what happened when he was England manager then that's their problem. I'd rather see a competent and winning manager at the helm than get on my moral high horse.

Big Sam is probably what we need now. But I hope the contract isn't too long term, and I worry about the kind of transfers targets he may push for (and not just because he'll have his "favourite" agents).

Like Pulis, I imagine he'll think we need 4-5 new players, and I hope his choices are as good as Pulis' were.

If he does the job, but not much more, then perhaps in the summer can pull off a Mancini miracle.

The thing is it's a lot more enjoyable playing back to the wall football when your in your first season, massively over achieving and nicking points here and there. After 3 seasons, spending numerous amounts, having numerous internationals and a 30 odd million pound striker. As a fan I would expect a bit more than grinding out results weekly. From a business point of view all that matters is premier league money, problem is most of us don't care for the business side we're just football fans.

Maybe you should check his stats something like a 33% win rate

Well, for me it was when he spoke absolute garbage after we turned over his West Ham at their place near the end of the 13-14 season.

I even posted on here that he was talking rubbish on Sky's Goals on Sunday about us.

I'm not a fan.

Contract is till 2019 with a break clause for halfway. So likely he'll be here for this and next season at the least.

Sky Sports says no break clause but didn't mention the contract length. Obviously doesn't mean he can't be sacked at any moment of course. Just costs more, but hopefully not as much as yesterday FFS.

Whatever they are, they are going to be better than AP's.
