I fail to see why people pay for any of this. It's all available for free online: Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, Black Mirror, Star Wars Rogue One, live Premier League - you name it, it's all out there on Putlocker, wiz1, cricfree, youTube etc. Cost? Zero.

I don't know about the alternatives but my nephew gave me a Kodi loaded firestick for my birthday last year.

I know it cost him £35 and he spent a couple of hours loading it and installing it.

I have Virgin's 200meg broadband package, so it works well on my TV.

Since then I have watched the whole series of GoT, Sopranos, etc., all the latest films (watched Jungle Book yesterday) and loads of live sport including Palace.

My experience is very positive and I would recommend one to anybody... it pays for itself in no time!

Having had numerous android boxes etc I'd go with the fire stick...I side loaded kodi on a 3rd one yesterday...took 5mins and works like a charm.

I also have 3 x Chromecast but they're not able to do anything other than have stuff 'thrown up' to it...making it a good way to breathe some life into an old TV.

What do you mean by sideload Kodi? What is the benefit, just started to think about getting something like firestick. Does it completely replace having Sky / Virgin?

sideloading kodi allows you to watch almost anything, but from experience you need a good internet signal, some stuff can slow down & buffer...I still have virgin, all down to cost hope this helps

the benefit of sideloading kodi onto a firestick is basivcally free films & tv series with a better selection than any paid service.

you can either watch dodgy football streams for free, of pay £7 a month for garuanted HD streams of any sport worldwide.

its a lot more convenient than hooking the laptop up to the tv, and you have all the usual iplayer/4od/netflix etc etc on a firestick aswell

Had a chromecast for a while. Never use it. Can't see much use for it apart from maybe showing photo albums or home made videos.

Firesticks are the nuts. Takes 30 mins 1st time to set up kodi with YouTube instructions.

Now use Streamtvbox for sport. I pay £27 every 3 months. You can pay £11 per month. No f***ing about looking for events. It disappeared Boxing Day but I expect it was temporary. It was running on PC.

Something called iStream appeared. It accesses 50 different streams for any film it has listed.

Side loading means you'll have to add the Kodi app yourself. Watch this on how to do it-> [Link]

You then need to download Exodus within Kodi (again see youtube) as this is by far the best app to use in order to watch tv or movies etc.

As for dropping sky/virgin I now stay clear of the sport streams...they'll work for a while andriving then drop and you have to pfaff around to find another one. Some of the paid ones are ok...but then I don't want to give a 3rd party my card details

Use credit card. I realised I'd used my card with somewhere dodgy (nothing to do with this) and told Barclaycard straight away. They did nothing but refunded the 2 X £110 payments to currys and another similar online retailer. I wonder if anyone even bothers knocking/raiding the address where the deliveries go.
