My original post included the line "We would be just as good/bad if we had searched the lower leagues here and across Europe for talent and at a quarter of the price."

And after that more about the money side as it is.

I want a prudent approach. I don't want the £100k a weekers. I don't think success at a club like ours can be bought. It's more about spirit and desire.

With you being such and out and out contrarian, and then having a personal pop, if anyone is trolling it is you Rudi H. Have a word with yourself.

How long do clubs last signing only bargains with zero top level experience? Not very long usually. How many 15 goal strikers have we found doing this? Wrighty and AJ over 25-30 years?

Kermit, it is well known that the underlying trend is that league position, if not over the very short-term then over the medium-term and beyond mirrors spend on players and wages. Some buy too many oldies and it runs out, but that is the general trend.

So if showing that ambition to stay in the league eats up a lot of revenue that makes bringing the club into this century take longer and may not happen because of the wait, then it is a pretty sensible business decision to welcome further investment.

Bizarrely some may not like it but it's good business and faulting Parish in this and business decisions I can't fathom. It's possibly why he clashes with managers after all. Not being keen on signing the players with little resale value. That is what catches up with clubs, not having valuable assets in the squad.

We are looking in the wrong direction for why we are hovering above the drop zone. We should never have gone for this open play strategy which is more like leave the defence wide open or poorly trained or motivated to stop a Hull player walk past 4 Palace bystanders. 'Transition' bollox was to buy himself time and excuses. The change in style was to show he was wroth the extension and raise. Pardew and Parish f*cked up badly on this. The players we have bought are good players, the direction is tosh and the game management and respect for premiership points has been nothing short of a disgrace.

Some need to get their chins up ready for the 2nd half of season fightback.

Whilst I agree that its nothing to do with the US owners, when Pardew took over we were going down. No mistake, we were relegation bound in a bad way. We then finished 10th, and then had the best start to a season we've ever had in the premiership, followed by a monumental slump from which Pardew couldn't recover, despite an FA Cup final.

I don't know what the problem is, and nor did Pardew, and that's the point. He lost his job because he didn't either. He ran out of chances and time, and by the Swansea game was on borrowed time (hell from the end of last season he was on borrowed time bought with an FA Cup run).

But his first twelve months here were not 'when it all went wrong' because everything was going very right indeed!

Would Pardew have kept us up. Maybe, but that's hardly the kind of answer anyone wants on their multi-million pound investment. They want at least a probably. After Hull, Parish couldn't really protect him anymore, because his record over 12 months wasn't good enough.

Very well reasoned post. I'm not sure Sam will suss out the problem just yet, but maybe in time. That's why I am worried that we made the change in the hope of instant turn around, which I think is chancy. If he doesn't start getting results soon it may well be very difficult. Although, I have total faith in a good result tonight at least. I bow to the posters who are confident that with Pardew gone we are bound to stay up, but I'm not so sure. I think January signings will be crucial, as with Sam making similar substitutions as Pardew in the last couple of games with little reaction, I think he now knows what he is up against. I think a change of personnel or a longer period to change things is what is needed, but do we have enough time? It could go to the wire!

Mostly good points and well made but I will never be happy with nearly half the club being sold to the Yanks for the same price as Mutch, Fryers, Sako, Townsend and Wickham cost us combined incl salaries.

I would much rather we had operated on a smaller budget and cast our transfer nets wider or, and playing devils advocate here to satiate the greedy, waited for a proper big, big Sugar Daddy with hundreds of millions to splash.

£50mill was never going to change the club dramatically off the field or on. Well, it could have done if PP had been in place for the Old Stand rebuild but it wasn't and still isn't.

Steve P, and any top boss really, and for their own good too, need to be scrutinised regularly and not left to their own devices. He has been fantastic but we are fourth from bottom and playing pants and in a dilapidated stadium but with revenues of £600mill plus 2012-17. Definitely lots of questions to be asked.

When Allardyce took over at Sunderland they lost 8 out of his first 11 games in charge but he took over in October and had to wait until January for the 'Transfer Window'.

But they were hard to beat over the final 11 games only losing once - to champions Leicester.

3x 18 is 54, so the others cannot own more than 50% between them.

I think you'll find that Parish, Harris and Blitzer all hold 18% each and the four original members of CPFC2010 still own more than 50% between them.

There are other US investors amongst the 46% not owned by Parish, Blitzer and Harris. Have no idea how much though.
