For 50 mill? A no brainer. Pay silly money for Defoe (won't be that much anyway), throw in Robbie Brady, Ashley Young and a loan player. Then we should be all right, but as anyone else is saying - today's match vs. Swansea is massive. In typical Palace style we'll probably come away with zero points.

Has been a tad disappointing. Can obviously score some great headers but doesn't seem to put himself about enough. If you remember when we lost at home to Villa 2 years ago when he robbed Dann by the touchline ran towards goal and curled it round Speroni - we've seen nothing like that from him and I doubt Allardyce will be impressed unless he shows some more effort. Take the money and sign Hogan from Brentford - a hungry striker who will want to step up and prove something.

Been saying exactly this for weeks and got shot down for it.

I think Benteke will be the ideal striker for BFS, we just need another striker to complete with him.

He might not be Messi but he's scored 8 goals for us this season at a rate of nearly 1 in 2, who else has done that since we came up? I think he will suit Big Sam perfectly and will go on to score a load more for us.

Additionally, if we sell him for £40 million and then go in for another striker, the selling club will presumably hold us hostage with the knowledge that we are desperate for a replacement and have that money in the bank. Would be very disappointed if we cashed in.

I agree with you that, to sell now, would be very short-sighted. We'll never progress, or even worse, stay up, if we keep cashing in. Let's face it, we haven't replaced Bolasie yet and we never did get proper cover for Soure, which it turned out we needed sooner rather than later. The squad is paper-thin currently and weakening it further in the, possibly vain, hope of improving it in the next four weeks won't help. We don't seem to have much of a scouting network and we've hardly been decisive deal-makers so far.

I can see where the thought process comes from but not sure it is backed up by the stats.

Take a look at the last 2 games.

Against Arsenal he attempted 22 aerial duels. The next highest was Gabriel with 13. He attempted 18 more than Scott Dann. Now partly that is a function of our style of play but still. He attempted more than the 2 Arsenal centre backs (Koscielny and Gabriel) combined.

And he won 15 of them. Which is nearly 4x what anyone else won.

Now yes we played a lot of long ball so he was going to get a lot of chances.

But then against Watford, he attempted more than anyone else on the field (17 - 1 more than Deeney in second, and only one less than Dann and Delaney combined). And he won 11 of them. That's nearly double what the next best won (Deeney and Dann on 6).

He seems a bit lazy but I think that's the nature of the very poor service he is getting.

This.

Plus if we did sell Benteke now for say £50m we will then join the raft of other lower Prem teams desperately searching for a striker in January.

Any clubs that will sell to us will double their price knowing we are desperate and have £50 million from the Benteke sale burning a hole in our pockets. Can't see how we would come out of it better off at all.

So much competition in the window usually you will find yourself paying 10 million for someone above average but not special as likely to be injured as anyone else.

As with all things Palace lauded for 2 weeks maximum then - oh rubbish why did we get him.

Bit like the manager.

Bentenke really hasn't been that bad. Last game he had one chance which wasn't entirely clear cut and the keeper saved it. Giroud missed an absolute sitter but he was actually given some supply and so got other chances and scored (albeit a spectacular goal).

Bentenke has been getting no more than a couple of good chances a game for a while now. If we can start delivering more balls into the box he will undoubtedly score more. Only Chelsea managed to effectively stop him from winning the ball in the air, and against Swansea we shouldn't be pushed back so deep (I bloody hope not anyway!)

He'll get us 15-20 goals this season based on him already having 8 in an under-performing team, which is what everyone has been saying we need from a striker for the last four years. £50m means nothing if we don't have another top-class proven striker willing to fill his boots.

I'd bite their hands off at 40 million altho they might get more.

Time for Zaha to go for 30 million.

Also other bench-warmers costing a fortune in wages.

Bournemouth and West Brom are 2 examples of teams better than us who don't carry on like us also Soton very much a business there.

Players can't continue to have it both ways IMO.

Couldn't agree more Dave. Unless we ever see Remy in action, Benteke is our only genuine Premier League quality striker. We need to be adding to that, not getting rid and starting again.
