The only commentss Willo will concede to are > I won't be bullied into this hogwash of an argument, that is all i have to say on the matter and the ref's view must have been obstructed and refs are only human and make errors.

I've not seen a replay yet, but if Benteke would have tried a bit harder to stay on his feet he would have been able to smash the ball into an empty net and we wouldn't be having this debate.

Your kidding yourself, the effort was pathetic, we just sat back and let Swansea play it around, unchallenged.
I wouldn't play Townsend again, he is a cancer to the team. Campbell gives 100% everytime, it's just a shame he is not very good.

Right, but the question of our effort is for another thread. This thread is about whether or not we were denied two clear penalties, not whether or not we deserved them. Both penalties looked fairly obvious to me - the second more than the first.

the ref had nothing to do with the shower of s*** in red and blue, pointless blaming him

Apart from the two obvious penalties, the obstruction aspect of Law 12 is apparently no longer enforced.

"An indirect free kick is also awarded to the opposing team if, in the opinion of the referee, a player:

impedes the progress of an opponent

"

(despite the offense being committed some 12 yards from the ball and the offender blatently backing into an opposing player.)

To a point but, if you take a team with almost zero confidence & blatant bad decisions go against them it just undermines what little they had to start with.

If I were on that pitch I'd be wondering what the **** we need to do to get a break. In that state of mind it becomes very easy to believe that you cannot win a game no matter what you do.

Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five!

Actually, if Palace had been given a penalty, and if they scored it, that would have given them a massive confidence surge, which could have changed the game in the first half.

Similarly, in the second half, when they seemed to be giving it a go, to be denied a clear penalty had a demoralising effect on them.

Confidence and psychology are massively influential. These are human beings.!!

If Man United scored a penalty against the run of play, all the 'exerts' would be saying how that's a mark of a great team to dig in and win even when you are not playing well.

If Palace get a penalty, and if they score, and that inspires them to greater things, I can't understand this mentality about "we weren't playing well anyway so we don't deserve it."

Of course they f***ing deserved it if Benteke is in the box and the keeper brings him down!!! The boys put the effort in, even though morale is low and they are beginning to be frightened of doing things.

(This is why they ended up resorting to pumping hopeful balls in the air, because they'd lost confidence)

What are you? A perfectionist? Do you demand a 25 man move, with barcelona style tippy tappy football finished off with a scorpion kick?

Your all grabbing at straws, the penalties weren't given, that's it.
The truth is, we were absolute sh-te tonight, didn't deserve to get anything.
The total lack of effort was an embarrassment against a team who didn't have to play well to make us look as if we have accepted defeat as the norm.

Absolutely right. Saves me having to post the truth.

According to the laws of the game, we did.
(The fact that we were s*** is irrelevant to this thread).

I hate to say it but although I was texting my dad to say "we've been denied two stonewall penalties" I didn't really see the second one properly as I was doing a jigsaw puzzle with the Mrs. The first one the commentators were adamant was a penalty (which is unusual for those bell ends) but I think would've been quite a soft penalty to give. And given that the ref had his view blocked a bit I think the adage is "if you didn't see it, you can't give it". I could see it being given, don't get me wrong, but I don't think it was the most blatant penalty, not by a long chalk. And I agree with the comments that it was a terrible performance. We played better against Chelsea and Manchester United. I can't actually believe how bad we've played against Arsenal and Swansea. In some of the previous games we looked like an ok team that was often unfortunately beaten by a goal. Now we look like a League 2 club that's been drawn against a Premier League club in the cup. I'll keep the faith and having been a fan of the club for long enough to have seen worse, I will take whatever comes on the chin, but it doesn't look great.

If we manage to get the ball in their area, and our man put's the ball past their keeper and is brought down before he has the chance to put the ball in the net, then I'm pretty sure we DO deserve a penalty.

The same logic applies if one of their players starts to juggle the ball from hand to hand.

Those are the rules. they should apply to everyone.

Doesn't matter whether the approach work doesn't match up to the style of approach work you expect. If you don't like the wrapping paper, that doesn't matter. Have a look at the end result.
