As much as I loved Vince Hilaire , Zaha and him are too similar , flattered to deceive .

One thing Wilf has, that neither Rogers or Taylor could match, is there sheer range of ways he can go past a player.

Sometimes, he beats them through his first touch, flicking the ball one way but body swerving the other, leaving the defender flummoxed.

Against Brighton (in the 2-0 away victory in the play offs) he beats his defender without even touching the ball. As pass is played into him and he lets it run and turns past his marker, who's still three seconds behind in thought processing. Zaha leaves his for dead. ends up. (Watch the goal on Youtube.) He actually makes it look easy, but its his timing and movement are incredible.

Then he's got all manner of tricks for sending the defender one way, then the other.

Rogers was brilliant, and very fast too, but I still think Wilf is even better.

Wilf is good with some amazing trickery he uses to beat players but Don Rogers was a class above. He played on ploughed fields and still went past opponents with consummate ease. He was also considerably faster than Wilf with phenomenal acceleration over the first 4 or 5 metres which just left opponents for dead. He also finished with either foot. At the time he was playing he was having to do it on his own, quite often from a deep position, but you always got butterflies when he got the ball because you sense he could do it on his own. His only real fault was that he sometimes went missing in away games.

Was going to post this. He's not as good as we all think. Against the Swansea's and the like he is decent. Against the big boys he disapppears. He is certainly good enough to have another go with one of the bigger clubs though to see if he can rise to the occasion playing in a much better team.
