It would be nice to see Speroni finally claim the club's appearance record for a goalkeeper. I'd like to see Kaikai and Remy take part too, and I'm sure Lee would particularly want to play in this one as it's against his former team. Maybe some of the youth players might be given a chance to make an impression from the bench as well.

There's another player I think it might be interesting to see in action - Keshi Anderson! Not sure if he'd be eligible to play, though.

I'd not be surprised if the entire team was made up of squad & younger players. Would expect Kaikai & Ladapo to get a run out along with Philips, Husin, Dreher, Wynter & maybe one or two others.

SA was quite adamant the cup is of no interest & he needs to see as many players as he can to gauge what he actually has at his disposal. Should be a chance to shine & catch the new boss's eye.

Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five!

If he wants to see if any of the development squad have what it takes he can always go and watch them play in one of their own games.

We need a convincing win against Bolton otherwise the heads will drop even further

Debatable whether our splendid Cup run last season contributed in anyway to our quite disastrous league form.
Many no doubt feel another Cup run would boost rock bottom confidence levels.I regard us a a club in crisis mode who does not need the distraction of a long Cup run this season.
We must concentrate on the league and stay up at all costs and that would appear to be Sam's stance also, which is welcome.

We need a win
We need to give some of the squad a rest
We can't send out an inexperienced team
We can't afford any more injuries

My team:

Speroni
Ward, Dann, Damo, Fryers
Flamini, Ledley
Lee, Cabaye, Townsend
Campbell

Bench: Hennessey, Kelly, Tomkins, Puncheon, Phillips, Kai Kai, Remy

Remy to play the second half, and if things are going well, get Phillips and/or Kai Kai on.

Think I would be very surprised to see Dann, Tomkins, Flamini, or Cabaye play any part. All obviously lacking in fitness and need some rest time.

I suspect Fryers will get a start and would think that Townsend might as well to try and get some of his confidence back. Lee and Campbell would seem sensible.

Otherwise KaiKai seems a given as we recalled him from loan and would imagine that some of the youth who have been stuck on the bench in recent weeks will also play a part.

And if Sam is looking to get people onside then giving Speroni a start to get the record seems a good idea.

And Remy probably off the bench unless he is fit enough to play 60 mins.

Can they really get 'fit' by resting or had the players been doing a bit too much 'resting' under Pardew?

if a player is injured then he should not play, however I always thought that the best way to get match fit was to play coupled with training on the practice ground, are we saying Pardew allowed players to become unfit and therefore they are not fit to play, as Professionals its their job and pride that should want them to always be keeping themselves match fit, injuries excepted, if they are not then one has to question their right to be a Pro footballer?
