I agree that freedom of speech isn't always easy. Some abuse is very hard to take....some horrible people taunt those who have lost loved ones for example. I'm not exactly sure of how we deal with them but outside of physical threats to someone I think America's first amendment far exceeds our own laws in terms of speech freedoms. In spite of being told our 'hate' speech laws wouldn't be abused it was only a little time ago that Nottingham Police themselves were abusing the spirit of the law.

There are some very scary crazy people in US politics, than in the UK would probably be sectioned. Watching congress and sentators state that the AHCA is Communism, or that women cannot get pregnant by rape is quite astonishing, or arguing against teaching evolution in schools because god (and so on). Trump does really fit in as a more reasonable version of them.
