I appreciate the people supporting Wayne, I don't particularly understand it, but hey ho. Let's be honest we have been spoilt in the past with the quality of our keepers. Please note this is not a "put Speroni back in goal" thread, the majority realise this is a department we are lacking in. Its easy to pick on a keeper, but WH gets undeserved stick. Yes, he spilled a few shots on Saturday, but I would prefer he spilled them and then gathered the ball, than let it fly past him into the net.

For me, Wayne simply doesn't have the reactions or courage to be a top class goalie. He could make up for either of these points he lacks by having one or the other, because he is a big sod. But unfortunately without either trait it leaves him in the 'not quite good enough' bracket.

If you want to compare stats for this season, WH averages 3.1 saves per games and concedes 1.84 goals per games; SM averages 2.64 saves per game and concedes 1.88 goals. Hennessey is the best for dominating his area and his kicking is good, but he's worse at free-kick positioning, can be slow getting down to low shots and he hasn't got near a penalty yet either. From what I've seen of Mandanda he doesn't dominate his area and his quick distribution caused several problems with players not expecting the ball. Obviously not all but Hennessey has a degree of culpability. GK is arguably the most important position. Since beginning of 2016 he's not put in a big, match winning performance but has looked all over the place in numerous close games which we've failed to win. Integral part of the losing mentality and one of several reasons we find ourselves in the position we are. Incidentally one win from twelve this season.

Yes, but he's still got a better saves and goals concede ratio per game than Mandanda. So, if we got more points under SM then there must be some other reason for this.

Given that the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts and all that.
