It is possible to make a case for at least giving Speroni another go when we were leaking goals. Gayle was unfancied by four managers, including Pardew, and Murray didn't really hack it at Bournemouth, so I can see the reasoning for their departure.

The Big Sam who kept Sunderland up is the manager who you would grudgingly admire for his work in the last 16 years in the premier of keeping teams up. He got his dream job with England and blew it, it appears the experience has completely devastated his enthusiasm/confidence. From day 1 his tone/body language in press conferences and post match interviews have been really lacking in his usual confidence and the way the team are playing is reflecting his current attitude. From his beaming smile with England to sulking in our dug unless he has a massive change of attitude soon we are in a real mess. I was in the Pardew out Big Sam in camp but looks like we have made a huge error of judgement in employing Sam in his current state.

The back four are not confident in Hennessey, you could tell that from all the initial quotes on Mandanda. A confident Speroni is better than an unconfident and dithering Wayne Hennessey any day of the week. Put Jules in until Mandanda is back and lets start to breed some confidence into our defenders. Hennessey's positional sense and decision making is absolutely abysmal, and how do you think that makes the back four feel when those balls get dinked over them towards our goal? I hope this quote tells you that SA is starting to realize this is a big problem for us and needs to be fixed asap.

Trust me, I've watched him a bit before because I wrote him off sometime early in his West Ham days. With regards to the team reflecting him, well it's too early to fairly judge and he's clearly addressing specific areas rather than buying whoever the latest big name is available and/or relatively cheap and considering us or Watford or Bournemouth.

Of course I have NO idea as to Allardyce's thinking in respect of our goalkeepers but I am just going on a hunch. I also believe (Without any insider knowledge on this matter)that Allardyce has concluded that he has taken on a much tougher job than he anticipated and who knows, might regret that he took the job !

All is not lost until we're mathematically down, and until we are, I'm not giving up hope of a revival. A very sensible post - particularly like the Townsend bit.
