Brian Whitehouse has died aged 81. He joined Palace from Wrexham in November 1963 and played his part in our promotion to Division 2 as a somewhat pedestrian inside forward alongside the prolific greats Cliff Holton and Peter Burridge.

The following season without his partners Palace struggled for goals and Brian was top scorer with 7 playing in various positions. In all he played 92 games, often in a utility capacity, scoring 17 goals before being transferred to Charlton in March 1966.

RIP Brian.

Sad news. He was a main stay of the team when I first started supporting Palace.

Nice photo of him here, December 1964.

Journeyman career but a long coaching one after he finished playing.

Played for:-

WBA 1952-60 37 games, 13 goals
Norwich 60-62 41 games, 14 goals
Wrexham 62-63 45 games, 19 goals
CPFC 63-66 82 games, 17 goals
Charlton 66-67 13 games, 1 goal
L Orient 67-69 52 games, 6 goals

Total 270 games, 70 goals

Seem to remember he played in goal in the game John Smout got injured in and so played in almost every shirt in his Palace career. And had an older brother Jim who played for WBA, Reading, Coventry and Millwall.

Very nice guy when I had the pleasure of meeting him a few years ago.

RIP Brian

That was away to Coventry - I was there. If memory serves me correctly he kept a clean sheet.
