It is important that we, actually, do reflect on the fact that we would not be where we are in Northern Ireland, in terms of having stability, peace and the opportunity to rebuild our country, were it not for the work he did put in, especially with my father at the beginning of this long journey".
Sinn Féin's Conor Murphy told the programme that the late Dr Paisley and Mr McGuinness "were derided for the friendship they had, but people would like to see a few chuckles around Stormont today".
Mr Paisley agreed with Mr Murphy saying: "Perhaps if we got back to some of that foundation work of building a proper relationship we could get out of the mess we are currently in."
He added: "I can say thank you - honestly and humbly and recognise the remarkable journey Martin McGuinness went on has not only saved lives, but has made the lives of countless people in Northern Ireland better because of the partnership government we worked on and put together."

Although horrible still did good things too.

He was definitely armed and in the area, but not part of the march.

Every time there's a discussion about Northern Ireland the Irish assume a Brit knows nothing about it. Ironic seeing it's part of Britain.

Also if I had got it from Wiki - I didn't, (having just looked it doesn't mention him murdering policemen)it doesn't make it any less right.

There is a well known video of the Ulster Special Constabulary attacking Catholics marchers before it all kicked off big time.

It was a nasty conflict and no side comes out smelling of roses nor can claim the moral high ground.

Lots of policemen were murdered and most of them deemed guilty just by association, no doubt, as elements of The RUC in the 70's were not your average bobby on the beat. They were in deep collusion with loyalist terror gangs.

An assessment during The Troubles:

"Police officers and soldiers harass young people on the street hitting, kicking and insulting them. Police officers in interrogation centres insult, trick and threaten youngsters and sometimes physically assault them. Children are locked up in adult detention centres and prisons in shameful conditions. Helsinki Watch heard dozens of stories from children, their parents, lawyers, youth workers and political leaders of children being stopped on the street and hit, kicked and abused again and again by police and soldiers."

Now they probably thought the had the right to act like that but then there was always going to be a reaction from the other side. It was a serious conflict/war.
