Wilf will love reading this thread! In spite of the tournament's timing/inconvenience/status/pitches, I think Wilf should be supported in his decision. I'm desperate for him to come home but all the time he's playing I want him and his country to do well.

Why do people wish that Wilf's tournament ends early, just so that he comes back to play a few extra games for the club? If Wilf is so important to us and regarded as one of our 'own', surely the logical thing to do is hope that he has a successful tournament and wish him all the best. I don't understand how the logic of wishing ill-fortune on someone that is supposedly 'loved' by the fans.

Moreover, I would think that if IC had done well Wilf would come back with confidence which would help break the losing pattern we have back at Palace. This would be worth more than an extra performance. Unfortunately it doesn't look likely to happen - IC have been poor.

Because he is currently by far and away the best player that we have, and we are in a dire situation. I can't imagine anybody wishing him to get knocked out if this tournament was held in the off season. As it is we are struggling to book a win and he is playing in a tournament that holds little relevance to the majority of our fan base.

CAF have always been keen to drive up interest in 'sleeper' nations and to showcase African talent to European clubs. It's why it is often held in countries that really don't have the infrastructure, in order to push public interest and to encourage the governments in those nations to invest. Some of the nations that have been hosts really should never have been selected, I mean could you imagine the next Euros being in Albania or Moldova?

It hasn't really been mentioned perhaps because it gives the connotations of racism but the lad has a Croydon accent, has played tournaments for England and this whole Ivory Coast decision came about when he realised his at his prime age now and not going to be a starter for England in the next 2 tournaments. I know we were all baffled when our very own Big Sam chose Townsend over Zaha last year but there was never any doubt of Wilf rejecting the call had it come. I don't think Zaha has been umming and arring about this for a while, there was never any hint of Wilf rejecting England if they wanted him. Also, this may be too cynical but his "other" nationality is one of the top teams in Africa, as I mentioned earlier they won the AFCON last time and Wilf could well see another one in the future. So it's not a completely tenuous link.
