Edited by leejaneagles (24 Jan 2017 8.46pm) Sam was only in charge for one match and that was the one straight after the disgraceful performance against Iceland, so wide departures from previous were unlikely and Townsend had been picked before. I believe it was Southgate who shut the door in Wilf's face and I was kinda hoping he would show them what they've been missing. Well, I hope he still will. Anyway England's next appearance at a World Cup is likely to be another round of the kind of shambles we are now used to and he is better out of it. To say they had egg on their faces at the Euros would be an understatement.

watched some of the Ivory Coast game, well as much as I could take ....I won't be watching any more of the afcon.....

I do think though there are a lot of players that technically have dual Nationalities but clearly identify with one nation. Not only that but there are players that have the opportunity to play for a big club like a Spain or Germany but pick a much smaller side because they love that country. I always find it silly when a player has a tournament for an under 21 Nation and then picks another Nation at full level because they don't see many opportunities.

I can't imagine anybody wishing him to get knocked out if this tournament was held in the off season. As it is we are struggling to book a win and he is playing in a tournament that holds little relevance to the majority of our fan base. And the majority of Africa by the look of the empty seats

Dire tournament. Always has been. So bad the BBC, who absolutely loved it, eventually had to give up ramming it down our throats.

Could have played for England but wanted to play for Wales. I do think Wilf genuinely identifies with his home country/heritage (not sure of the correct term), just like Yala clearly loved playing for D.R Congo. If he had gone and played for Scotland, I'd have been suspicious
