This is what is fundamentally floored about FFP. It just took into account the teams' starting point.

Teams with over 53 mil but doesn't cap or reduce ones that are way over. So for example, if the top clubs have a wage bill of 500 million, they can increase that by 4 million every year.

If Palace have a wage bill of 54 million but then manage to stay up in the Premier League somehow for 3 seasons (aka what actually happened), we are not allowed to increase it to the amount of being able to move up the league. Keeping us exactly where we are.

Of course on a separate issue, it's probably not a good idea to have the likes of Jordan Mutch, Zeki Fryers and Frazier Campbell taking up a chunk of our budget and not being good enough for our squad.

I think that's another reason Parish is being so careful. He's getting a bit tired of a different style Manager coming in and saying he needs these type of players, then those players not being what the next one wants.

So he's only really trying for players that would fit into most systems because if next year Sam walks out we can't afford someone coming in and saying "I need a right back, Jenkinson isn't my type of full-back".

They can also increase it through other sources of increased revenue, for instance; Manchester City have increased theirs by over £32M this term. I'm not sure if they have breached the rules there or not.

We supposedly have a wage bill of £55m, only and increase of £0.7m from last year. so you'd assume we can increase that by £6.3m here in January. Those figures could be wrong as we did acquire Benteke and Townsend on big salaries and only offloaded Adebayor and Bolasie on biggish money. Although we did offload Hangeland, Mariappa, Jedinak, Gayle, Chamakh. So cumulatively they could have added up, I think Mariappa was on quite a good deal.

Interestingly, Leicester could increase their wage bill by £17.8M this term because their wages last season were only £48.2M (under the £54M cap).

Apparently we have the 15th highest wages, I'm not sure how trustworthy most of sources out there are though.

The manager has a budget to work to and the more a new right back demands from that budget the less there is available for other areas and I think everyone is in agreement that right back is a lower priority than several other positions so if Jenkinson is demanding a pay rise from the £40,000pw week that he allegedly received to warm Arsenal's bench I agree with our chairman that the monies should be spent elsewhere

And therein lies our problem. Our infrastructure severely limits our ability to increase our non-TV revenue, and if we lose anything like 3000 seats next season, it's going to get a whole lot harder.

No it doesn't. He has FFP to contend with & our need elsewhere in the team is greater. Add to that the fact that the lifelong fanatical Arsenal fan Jenkinson simply doesn't want to leave HIS club & you may be nearer the truth.

A while back on Sunday Supplement they were saying the FFP fines are considerably bigger under the new regime - 2015/16 cost Bournemouth £7m. I'm sure the board would prefer not to throw money away for the sake of it.

We've a few contracts expiring in June which will help so let's hope it's not too late by then.

All the press coverage at the time of the deal collapsing made it quite clear that Jenkinson *did* want to leave and was still looking to leave. So not sure that's true.

It does look like this has fallen through over money. Now whether you believe that's because SP didn't offer enough, or because he offered a fair wage which was rejected because the player was being greedy - well that's down to interpretation.

We need players. Our back four needs to be urgently fixed. We are conceding late goals for fun. We need some impetus and the new managers hasn't brought any sadly on his appointment alone. We need points and we need them now otherwise we are getting relegated. I would therefore like us to sign some players that our manager wants and preferably early in the window so that January isnt over with no more points on the board. If there was ever a time to justify signing our manager's first choice right back for over the odds money, then it was now in this window. The season is slipping away and so is our premier league status. Stop d***ing around and sign some defenders please Mr Parish. We have made bids on 12 players and signed 1 on Jan 23rd? What on earth is going on there? We are not bidding enough money or we are d***ing around in the negotiations. Stop d***ing around with the future of our club and sort this mess out.

Maybe you should bother to read quotes from BFS and realise that they have been through 'LOTS' of players but they all havent come for what ever reason not just because you seem to souly believe it is down to Parish. Not only that but buying players doesn't guarantee solidity in a team, it doesn't mean if you pay them lots and lots they are instantly good. Jenkinson hasn't even played much so why you have this belief that Parish just chucking money at dross like that would be a wise decision is beyond me.

If he holds out for the correct player with the correct belief at the right price I would much prefer that than buying whoever for inflated prices.

Not to even begin on the 'FACT' it isn't just Parishes money which you seem to aim at, that everything most likely has to be consulted and approved by the board of owners seeing as it isn't just pennies being thrown about.

Frustrating as it may be, we can't just sign who we like on whatever wages they want. We have to play by the rules and, has already been said, if it's a choice, on affordability, between a LB and a RB, the left-side has to take priority. If you're expecting a whole new back four in this window, then you're definitely going to be very disappointed.

We're shopping in a very small market here; competent players, better than we already have, prepared to join a relegation struggle. There aren't going to be too many of those beating a path to our door. If we only solve the left-side problem this window, and we're 50% of the way there, Parish and Allardyce will have done well. Anything more will be a very big bonus.

I don't agree with this. Parish seems like a good businessman to me, and to think that he would need us minions to tell him when to play hard ball, seems most unlikely.

It is just as likely that Palace "banked" Jenkinson as a back-up choice and are trying to land Sam's first choice. It is also just as likely that we leaked the news of the Jenkinson transfer to ensure that we don't get held over a barrel elsewhere.

One thing that Parish will know is that the key to negotiating is to be willing to (or at least give the perception that we would) walk away.

Half baked media reports, and pant-wetting is unfortunately unavoidable collateral.

As per my previous post, "SP didn't offer enough" seems to translate to "SP didn't want Jenkinson enough".

Steve Parish has far more at stake if we are relegated than any of the fans as all we will lose is top tier football whilst he will see millions wiped off the value of his investment.

I don't think that it's a question of money in many of the cases as we were supposedly in for Livermore but he chose to go to eighth placed West Brom rather than relegation threatened Palace and I don't suppose that Evra's case is much different

Much the same with Jack Wilshere when he was up for loan from Arsenal.

We were outbid by Bournemouth FFS.
