Did my speed awareness course earlier this month. It was good to be reminded of the importance of some of the (safe driving) things I do automatically. While on the course I noted the quantity of drivers attending and thought about revenue being generated. Before and since the course I have noted how many people I know who have been caught, and that there seem to be two groups of drivers - those who have done the course (and fear for their licences) and those who drive with greater urgency. One problem I am working on is that lots of people are aware that it is easier to stop if you are driving slower. Without the fear factor I cause by positive driving, I find that other motorists take liberties because my slow and careful driving encourages them to take the liberty of stealing my space - confident that I will stop for them if needed.

From experience, early hours of morning(6am or so) is a very dodgy time.
A few morons really boot it, 50-70mph on 30mph roads.
I sometimes leave pretty early depending on the job and this time is always dodgy.
It can be stereotype van drivers or people in small cars
but the quieter roads bring out some shockers.

Kids,tired of being bothered by your pesky parents?
Then leave home, get a job & pay your own bills, while you still know everything.

30 years as a cab driver not so much as spec on my license,have driven a lorry for 8 years now...got 3 points and attending a course next month....
On another note,I had to someone to Lincolnshire years ago quiet late at night.( a fare).on the way back on the A1m I was really really belting get it,looked in mirror..oh dear pulled me up asked how fast I was going,I said about 90 (knowing darn well I was going a lot faster),he laughed and said try nearer to 130.
Thought s*** gonna be in big trouble here.so he asked me where I had been and all that crap, and then said I can see you are a cab driver and it's really early morning and no one about.
So next time keep an eye in your mirror the next lot might not be so nice and let me be on my way.....result.

Fingers crossed, I've never had points for speeding. I'm not say I've never done it. But there are factors to take in. If it's a 20mph zone, 40mph is stupid. What's so hard about keeping close to the speed limit? Unless you are on a long motorway journey, the time saved is minimal.

There are a lot of serial speeders about though, and No1 on the list is mothers taking the brats to school. Late. As usual. Worst drivers on the road. Get up earlier you lazy.......!

Another set is the 40mph drivers. Country roads are national speed limit. The towns they go through are 30mph. Or 20mph if there is a school, or reduced road. But those b...ards do 40mph all the way!

And the youngsters, who think they have a fast car. No! They don't go fast, they just sound loud!

P.S. Got a ban years back for racing my Barracuda down the spine road when they were building Thamesmead

I'm not being funny but that is really out of order. 130mph isn't safe, no matter where you are or how quiet the road is. You should have been done.

I don't know you personally and you are probably a top bloke, but that is just wrong. 130mph is meant to be enough to get you disqualified from driving, let alone some poxy fine. Although I accept given your career, that would constitute a potentially very harsh punishment.

Those pesky foreign germans have the right idea on their autobahns. No speed limit, just drive at a speed that is safe for the amount of traffic and conditions - Also driving whilst listening to gabba is banned in Finland as it was found to cause listeners to drive too fast.
