Shrugs.....I just like him. He hasn't proved much for Palace, but he's also taking a lot of unjustified crap on this site. Users blame him for WANTING to play on the right side. Like that's a player's choice!!!! I've even heard some say that that must have been talked when he agreed to the transfer ))))
Such a thing is never promised. No player makes such demands. Townsend would gladly play anywhere the manager tells him to play. He was bad because he doesn't have enough technique to be a right wing, his best position is left wing.

Not the best left wing in England, but i think he can cut it in the Premier League

He's been equally s*** on both sides. Whether he can cut it in the prem or not is another issue and this is where your knowledge gets exposed. This isn't FIFA or FM - you don't just put a bunch of players together with good stats and then win games, there are so many other factors. There suitability for not just the team but the style of the team and the system Sam wants to play with and so on. I've seen you in other threads splurting bulls*** along the lines of "NO BUT HE HAS MORE ASSISTS IN 13000 MINUTES OMG HES OUT OF OUR LEAGUE HES THE BEST IN EUROPE" and it just comes across as extremely naive from someone who sits on FIFA all day.

Even if you don't, the stats you come up with are just stats, there's so much more for a football manager/scouting department to consider in a real life situation.

Again, do you know how stupid that sounds. How do you possibly know that? The fact Townsend has had all success in his career down the right side would suggest it's not unrealistic to assume he'd prefer to play on the right, hence him playing there on our first game of the season against West Brom and also our first game under big Sam against Watford.

Bit irrelevant anyway as like I've said he's been equally s*** on both sides. May well cut it elsewhere, I thought it was a no brainer as a signing initially but he's been utterly useless for us wherever he's played - perhaps if you watched the games you'd realise this.

If you're playing a lot of video games and that's where you get your knowledge from you don't have to extrapolate that on me.
Stats are important and they are the core in football. Goalscorers are most important in making decades long successful teams. Getting your team to score is also pivotal. That's why you need to know who are your best players according to the ratio of the minutes they played. Statistics are used every time. When a child is selected for the first time in a team, when big transfers are considered, when proper assessment of players is required. Stats show you a logical frame. But you have to know to differentiate between relevant and irrelevant statistics.

Of course there are more things the team's play depends on. You're not finding America now. That's a load of bullocks. You can't just ignore the basics only because "there are other things". You have to also take the other things into consideration. And, if you perform an analysis, they also transform into data and stats and the good football manager knows how to differentiate the relevant from the irrelevant.

I don't have to take into consideration ANY style of play of Palace right now when I'm suggesting players, because Palace does not have a well-defined style of play. And even if it did have one, it wasn't productive under the previous manager and will not be further explored by the new manager.

About Townsend....he's been with the team for 4 months. Like him or don't like him, it's your choice. As is mine. But don't lecture me about not knowing where Townsend plays or tell me that I'm talking out of a video game.
I have opinions based on real football background, after viewing players many times and taking into consideration more than just goals or assists statistics, but many aspects from their defensive and offensive playing as well.

Statistics can be manipulated to suit any argument. If you think nothing else comes into consideration then you know less about the game than I originally expected. Why was Hazard utterly woeful last season yet is now being (delusionally imo) spoken in the same breath as Ronaldo and Messi? Oh yeah that's right other factors - the teams form, morale, the system, style of play, attitude, character, the competitiveness of the league they play in, the quality of the players they play with etc etc etc.

You can't obtain that info from statistics, that's where a managers experience and footballing knowledge comes into handy rather than there Xbox skills.

Even if statistics were the be all and end all, which I think only an idiot would think they are, it still doesn't take away the fact that your idea of how a transfer is actually achieved is extremely naive. Sam could be aware and a fan of every single player you've suggested for all we know, unlikely but possible - does that mean we can just go blindly go out and sign them? Of course it doesn't - I needn't name the various reasons as the list is endless but I think the main thing you seem to be forgetting is we've been utterly woeful for quite a long time now - there's a general consensus that we're in deep s***, perhaps these players actually watch us a bit more than you and would rather go elsewhere or warm the bench until a team that haven't got a major threat of relegation looming over them comes along!

Goal and assist in his debut match in the Premier League. I'd say he wasn't that bad a player

Maybe you guys will give me a little more credit the next time I say somehing.
Not trying to sound patronizing, but I was right
