My one major gripe is that I find it strange that as a Palace fan he sold more than half the club to some yanks when it wasn't necessary. And for not that much money considering the many hundreds of millions that have gone through the accounts these last few years and for no apparent gain to the club itself.

I'm betting that a large chunk of the transfer money was the Americans ..

Well SA, thanked them & SP after deadline day.

The fact that we have these U.S. backers has helped immeasurably behind the scenes. Not just the infrastructure, training ground etc but to 'sell' the CPFC plan to prospective players. The fact that we've been able to say "here's where we're going, here's how we intend to do it, this is how it will be financed " etc will have influenced players such as Benteke, Remy & our recent new signings to come to little old Palace & join a relegation scrap.

To be fair, you have never been happy about anything regarding Palace. I just wonder why you support them, as you gripe constantly.

We're third from bottom. It's a gripey kind of season. I hope you and all the Hull, Swansea, Sunderland and Leicester fans that are partying away continue to do so.

Maybe but there should have been a large wad left over form summer activity plus SP himself said the Yanks money was ringfenced for the stadium, supposedly. Who knows?

I wonder how long it took him to put it all together...it was hell sitting around in administration!

I would have rather not seen N'diaye thrown on up front when we were down 3-0 away at forest. Butterfield's FA Cup hatrick was quality, mind.

As it happens, that was six years ago to this day.

If you watch the post Bournemouth interview, towards the end SA thanks SP & the team for their work & "Josh & David" for providing the funds.

Their initial investment was earmarked for 'infrastructure' but they are free to invest in or finance anything else they want to - players included.

They've probably been a bit jittery ever since the plum had the transfer reigns.

This is a man who come from nothing, brought up in Forest Hill, moved to Bromley and has been a life lone Palace fan like most of us.

He had the balls to throw in the rat race and start his on reprographics production company (TAG) at a young age and build it into what most of us would call a substantial business. Again having the balls to turn down an offer from Sir Martin Sorrell as he felt that the alignment wasn't right for the business he eventually sold to Williams Lea and could have retired right then.

It was him, not the other 3 directors that put together the consortium to buy Palace from the brink of extinction. 3 other directors he barley even knew beforehand. Parish gathered the 4 of them together in an pub in Battersea and decided to save the club that made (at the time) no business sense what so ever. He did all that on his own.

I met David Gold (WHUFC) who told me the Palace boys (as he called them) are the nicest guys in football but have no money (in football terms), that's why he sold to the Americans and the reason he did is to move the club on in all aspects as he picked up a broken business. Why did he sell then and not now? Because we have so much stuff that needs doing on and off the pitch and he couldn't hang around for Palace's stock to go up. Even now we're probably get fined as we don't have the correct disabled access. That's not because he can't be bothered to do it, it's because it's a major reconstruction of that area of the stadium. Money he (and the other original board members never had). And you can forget about the signings we just made in Jan if the Americans weren't in situ. That cash hasn't come from the original board or a big pot in the bank at Selhurst from TV money, that's been finance in a large part by the American duo.

Palace (in my opinion) currently have the best squad they've ever had and probably the best outside the top 10 teams in the Premiership (subjective point to argue of course). That being said, the infrastructure is stuck in the 1990's. Training ground, gym, admin, marketing, sales, operations, stadium, sponsorship, corporate, back room staff, team travel, contracts, PA, floodlights, youth set up, offices, etc. etc. were all knackered when he took over. The Administrator stripped it all to its bear bones. There was no money. None! That's what Administrators do. He had to build everything up from scratch. Like walking into a derelict home where nothing works and you have a huge mortgage.

Is he allowed to make a mistake? I don't know anyone who hasn't, his are just public where yours are probably private.

I'll get off my soap box now but I (like most of you I'm sure) remember very well putting coins in buckets at Selhurst to save my club something I hope I never have to do or see again. These men put their hands deeper in their pockets bought a club from Administration and continue to this day to not draw a penny in salary or have their original share hold investment repaid.

Remember where we come from, before SP. If it wasn't for him, make no mistake, we wouldn't even be on this forum as we wouldn't exist.

This should be pinned at the top of the site during every transfer window.

Brilliantly written.

Excellent piece

Is he allowed to make a mistake? Of course he blinking well is! And what I love is that he will talk about it, admit it and move on. I'm sure he has a huge ego so it takes a huge amount of courage to admit mistakes. We know that he knows that he waited too long to sack Pards but I can see that, Pards game after game so close to getting it right (poor referees, poor luck, suicidal last 10 minutes decision making etc etc), a poor mans Keegan.

As far as I'm concerned Steve is a hero and continues to be Palace through and through.

I can only imagine how difficult it must be in the transfer window, it is a crazy amount of money to be spending.

Feel sorry for Steve tonight. He backed Allardyce in the transfer market, to only be rewarded with a performance as dire as in memory.
