I bumped into Danny Butterfield the summer after we won the play off final against West Ham.I didn't know if he'd think I was a bore, but I found myself thanking him for how the team had given me one of the most memorable moments in my decades as a Palace supporter. He was very friendly & polite and smiled, saying "Yeah, it was a great night," suggesting to me the players' celebrations afterwards were also memorable.

As the proprietor of a local pub once said to me "You are a walking encyclopedia of football" ! To which my wife replied words to the effect that I spend enough time reading about it, watching it and talking about it to an array of people - she said it in a voice of unadulterated exhasperation ! She never went as far as calling me a "Saddo". Used to take part in a challenging football quiz against teams scattered around the Home Counties and further afield but not any more.
