Understood but surely something is either true or not.

A half truth is as good as a lie, just less easy to notice perhaps. And the best lies are ones sandwiched between to truths or so the saying goes.

No by definition its half a truth, more than a lie (which is no truth).

A dead one. Politicians in general are the worst people to be put in charge of anything, let alone a country.

If politics was driving, we'd forever be listening to people tell us that we will be going somewhere, its just that we need to hold on just a little bit more and pay a little bit more, whilst in truth, they've sold the car for parts, and will eventually fob you off that it was your fault.

That is as close to an absolute truth as one can get.

By definition perhaps but in reality, a half truth can be more damaging than an outright lie. It's concealment aside a truth makes it less easy to spot for one thing.

WTF..... why is this being highlighted now as if it is some new phenomenon or development?

Can't figure this out either.

Of course you used to get the racist morons on Facebook posting infographics along the lines of 'War Pensioner gets £1 a week, immigrants £1000 a week' which were soon replaced by supposedly intelligent people of great social conscience, posting pictures from the House of Commons allegedly showing the poor turnouts for benefit reform debates compared to those over MPs pay.

Even the usual suspects on here have been pressured in to finding alternative sources than dodgy blogs.

Unless we're talking about the '£350m' figure which I'm sure most accepted to be without the rebate.

The Trump inauguration turnout one is very recent so I can't understand how that has spawned this phenomenon. Whole week on Channel 4 devoted to it but not sure I fancy the bias so I'll let someone else report back after watching.

However as soon as a politician dies, they were the best politician ever.

Churchill used that rather grandiose phrase "Terminological inexactitude"

Well, yes, because they're dead

Veneration and admiration for politicians is inherent in the system of maintaining this idea that we just MUST have these types of people in control.

Other people, don't get that same kind of beatification for just doing their job well. Politics encourages it, because if we judged politicians on how well they did their job and their ability, the Commons would be burned to the ground.

Imagine being the MP for Henley on Thames, to actually lose your seat at an election, you'd probably have to have done something so bad that the Conservative party would have deselected you.

So success in politics, isn't about how well you can do the job, but how well liked you are in the party. Those safe seats are the gravy train.
