But they're just not good enough. At least, Kelly isn't even one. That's why I don't understand how they didn't at least try to bring in other players after the Jenkinson deal failed.

A right back was definitely more needed than a defensive midfielder. McArthur has been great this season. I don't see the point of Milivojevic. He's very technical, but slow too. How will he cut it in the pace of the Premier League?
Reminds me of Wolverhampton's Petrovic from a few years ago. He didn't do that great either.

Yet, the club spends money on a defensive midfielder and not on a right back (!?)

Sorry but we desperately need a defensive midfielder to protect thd back four. From everything I've seen and heard about this guy he's just what we need. Why slag him off before he's kicked a ball,

We've needed a strong defensive midfielder since Jedi was dropped then sold - the manager & coaching staff recognised that, any pundit that talked about our defence and just about every fan I know.

I rate Macca but neither he, Cabaye nor Ledley offer the necessary level of protection in front of the back 4 (or 3 or 5). Hopefully, Luka is that man.

Ward, Kelly & Tomkins can all play right back.

Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five!

Totally agree with the above.

Also unfortunately find it unsurprising that people have to question the transfers in the first place. The club have obviously tried to sign the best players they could find.

Yet people still complain....

Oh come on, highest spenders in the Premier League this window.
3 defenders signed.
We already have 2 right backs, regardless of how good/bad you think of them they still primarily play that position.
Sam is still getting used to the squad, assigning defensive duties and formations, we don't even know how well Ward, Kelly or Tomkins can perform these new jobs.
Jenkinson was who he wanted, Jenkinson didn't want to come.

Ward is plenty good enough. And Tomkins is a decent option at RB also. Left was definitely the priority.

Have you seen where McArthur's been played this season? Plus he's not a holding midfielder even when he does play deeper. Making tackles does not make you a "defensive midfielder". Jedinak and Milivojevic are holding midfielders that are best used in that role, McArthur's energy would be wasted if he played in that role. Elsewhere Cabaye, Ledley, Puncheon lack the understanding and discipline to play that role. Flamini has impressed whenever played but he can't seem to get consecutive games for some reason.

I feel foolish, I respected your apparent knowledge of all players worldwide.
Then I see you start a topic about signing Kennet Anderson, who must be about 50 years old by now.
I have realised you haven't a clue what you are talking about, just copying stuff from the net.

That's not me, Painter.

There is an argument for questioning why we didn't buy an entire new team during the transfer window not just a right back
