i only ever watch the superbowl, and then usually when the patriots are in it as i lived in Boston for 5 years.
The viewer ratings are down big time in the NFL this year, somewhere around 30%, mainly due to lack of quality in the league (or so some believe). But last nights game is the best advert for the NFL ever, and the half time show was possibly the best ever also.

I watched the game by the pool on a 12 foot screen with some friends, including several other patriot fans. Some of the pats fans left and went home after the Falcons went 28-3.

Just an amazing game, it had everything. But yeah, usually American Football is somewhat boring to watch, but this one was a dooby.

I think our players could learn something from the Pats about character and never quitting....

This is a sport that is best watched in highlights because the live games are just littered with delays.

Not a big fan.

I fell asleep at half time, woke up towards the end of the game. Can't wait to watch the second half back tonight. For those who knock it as a sport, Iused to play it and I have never experienced as much pain in sport, the day after a game / practice, as I have done with American Football

I can’t say I’m really into the NFL in a big way, but as something of an armchair sports fan I sometimes take a passing interest in the Superbowl in a similar way I would with events like the Grand National, Wimbledon or the Ryder Cup.

I didn’t see this year’s game, but listened to the last quarter on Radio 5 Live and am really glad I did! It was quite eventful with plenty of action and major talking points, and even some landmark moments. Definitely an occasion that will live long in the memory of all those who tuned in, whether they are seasoned NFL fans or not.

The only thing that annoyed me about the BBC commentary was the overuse of the word ‘wow’, but maybe that just shows how amazing the game was. Apart from that I thought they did a fine job with the coverage on the radio and think it might be a good way to help introduce new fans to the sport in future as the commentary is usually much more descriptive than on TV.

American football might be one of the fastest growing sports in the UK with the Superbowl attracting around a billion viewers worldwide, but personally I’m more drawn to Canadian football. It’s very similar to the American game with a larger field, twelve players per team, three downs and other subtle rule differences, but no one outside of Canada seems to know it exists. So if you want to follow the crowd, watch the NFL - but if you want to be a bit different, check out the CFL instead! Or better still, maybe try both.

It might be hard work to sit through an entire NFL game, especially with all the stoppages in the action, but taken in smaller doses it can be enjoyable and even quite exciting. The skill and athleticism of some of the players is to be admired, too, and this year’s Superbowl was certainly a great advertisement for the sport.

Roll on next season – and go Stamps!

lucky for me i woke up at around 3am and the game was still on!!!! Brady and the pats were at the 5 yd line trying to bring the game within 2, scored then got the 2 points after... then went into overtime and they won it... even just to see those last moments of the game was pretty cool... i like american football and am a pretty big fan so i felt pretty lucky to catch the last bits of the game...

I am a convert to "football", having lived in Houston for over 20 years; football comes before Jesus in these parts. High school games (the "Friday Night Lights") are televised live on TV. One suburban high school in the Houston area (Katy HS) has a 12,000 seat stadium.

But...it's worse than you suggest. The clock is running most of the time when the ball is not in play, so what you're watching is a televised committee meeting about what to do next. There is actually only about 15 minutes of time in which play is active.

However, once you get into the game, you come to realize that these breaks in the game (the huddle, not the interminable time outs) act to build tension for the next "play". It's very far from most other sports in this regard, but it's one of its attractions, rather than being a detriment. I does, though, act as a barrier to entry for new fans. It's a very bar/party-friendly sport, though, because it doesn't require constant attention.

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.

I love rugby. As i've got older i probably prefer it to football now. However i always watch the superbowl (yes i do understand it) and love the grandiose and pomposity of it. Taken cup final its a knockout to the nth degree. It belongs in the states tho.
