We were in then relegation area a couple of years ago when Pardew was appointed and he galvanised the team so much that we steadily moved up the table ending in 10th spot.

The first month of this transformation was achieved without Jedinak who was away at the Asia cup and we played some of our best football without him

And when he did come back got himself banned.

the dignified don't even enter in the game

I'd forgotten about that so it was almost two months without him that we rose up the league and from that moment onwards he was mainly just a bit part player

If we let the great minds of the HOL pick the team we would have speroni in goal a midfield of Jedinak, Barry Bannon and Jonny Williams with Murray and Gayle up front.

Do you know what at the moment I would trade a slower Jedinak for his inspirational leadership skills both on the pitch and in the dressing room. IMO this is worth more than the £4M we got for him. Hindsight yes but perhaps a bit of forward thinking at the time may have been a better option.

Theyd never get the ball tho. Only chance would be from a goalkick but speroni allways kick it straight into touch somewhere around the halfway line

Another one to add to that list, in my opinion, would be Yannik Bolasie - we haven't had the same excitement going forward since he went.

Was there anything more fun to watch than him and Wilf changing sides and totally bewildering the opposition?

Jedinak was not inspiring for most of last season.

Delaney, Ward, Puncheon and Ledley, all the 'established' players who supposedly have this drive, leadership and connection with the club were beyond awful on Saturday.

Looking back with rose tinted glasses isn't going to help right now.

Pardew was at fault for trying to fit Jedinak into the same kind of system we played with Puncheon, McArthur and Cabaye in midfield. He didn't let Jedinak just sit in front of the back 4 and do what he's best at. Despite all that I still thought Jedinak was good for the Cup semi and final and our best player in the opening day defeat to West Brom this season. Jedinak has always taken a while to get back up to speed, he did when he first joined us, didn't impress for a while at Villa but has started doing well for them recently.

I agree, looking back to player that have gone won't help us but sometimes it just feels good to say and identify where the problems began. I don't want Jedinak's last season to be remembered as being one where he was passed it because I don't believe he was, just our manager at the time lacked the intelligence to use him properly.

I really think we miss them not just because i think they could have still played a part on the pitch, but because of their character and determination. We have some outstanding individual talents now, way above the players that Jedi and Glenn played with when they first joined the club, but some of our renowned spirit and never say die attitude that we had was exemplified by these two. To all those who still support Pardew, just remember it was him that changed our whole philosophy, what made us the team that could come back from 3-0 down against Liverpool with 10 minutes left to draw a game. Yes we have more quality now, but we could have kept these two for at least another year. Big Sam would have loved them. We simply lack leaders on the pitch

Sigh, I was thinking a similar thing about Ninja and Thorn and then about Wright and Bright........and then I woke up and realised I'm living in the 'here and now' and not in the past!

In my humble estimation he is not PL level at this stage of his career
.But of course there will be those who fervently disagree with me.Opinions, opinions !

I agree, but my god we need a leader within that club.

Clint hill and shaun derry would be welcome right now
