This sounds a bit far fetched to me. The fact it includes so many publicly known individuals makes it sounds like someone dreamt it up. Not as though I know what happened either. I'm not convinced we'll ever know for sure.

Surprising really that neglect is not a crime. I mean in the pc world we live in. If for instance a babysitter decided to pop out down the pub for a few drinks only returning every so often to check and leaving the house open, how would that be viewed?
I can’t believe a baby sitter behaving like that and then a kid disappearing would just walk free would they?
So what’s the difference?

Who medicates their kids, leaving them in an unlocked apartment, before going out on the razz, night after night ? Even doctors can be psychopaths. In fact it can be a positive trait in some quarters of the medical profession. Crippen ? Shipman ? Allitt ?

Imagine. Two career professionals with 3 kids, trying to get some time together whilst on holiday. They are probably on a good income, but decide that Kids Clubs during the day might impact the spending money to the extent that a child-minder for the evening(s) would blow the budget.
Fortunately , their profession allows them easy access to prescription drugs in order to ensure their children have uninterrupted sleep, should the couple decide to go out and socialise.
An unfortunate set of circumstances means that an incident occurs with one of the children towards the end of the afternoon.
Grief, panic and guilt immediately strike the couple, as they bear some considerable responsibility for the child's ultimate demise.
The couples careers would be over, and their remaining children taken into care.
What to do ?

THINK !
dispose of any evidence, or clean impacted items thoroughly.
Keep social appointments, to gain more thinking time, and to provide an alibi.
A plan emerges as they maintain the façade that the missing child is asleep. Finally, part way through the evening, the alarm is raised.

They contact a PR guru and secure their services, they invite friends to search for the child and contaminate incriminating evidence,...then they call the police.

The PR guru sets to work blaming police for poor detective skills, treating his clients as suspects by questioning them, and not following-up leads of a "dirty gypsy foreigner-type" seen in the area.

A charidee is set up to assist the foreign inept police, who's monies are spunked investigating possible child sightings in Tobago, St Lucia, Madagascar, Asia and Australia and on maintaining a high media profile.

Interviews for TV and newspapers also generates income for the charidee, because you never know when the truth will surface, and everything will be taken from you.

And somehow , the catalysts for an awful outcome have now become the victims.

Job done.
