You have to wonder if they police actually know a lot more than they have let on to the media and greater public. Otherwise why would they keep the search going for so much longer and at such expense more than other missing child cases? Because the media and people on message boards won't wind it down so neither can they from where they are standing.

A stat just quoted on The Wright Show (don't judge) 300 children go missing and not found every year. Average police expenditure per missing child, £2,500 I would imagine a fair few of those parents are less culpable than the McCanns

I'm not so sure, new leads even if they don't pan out have to be followed up, and can end up eliminating people or uncovering new suspects or people of interest - Its still an open case. A lead that doesn't pan out can still produce some evidence, that at a later date turns out to be significant. I suspect it doesn't help that the world and their wife have probably 'reported sightings' though.

Of course, it's just speculation, but i've always suspected they are somehow complicit in her death, and her keeping the story alive as a way of distracting from it. They've constructing a lie, and have to keep repeating it, basically. The way the establishment got involved, phone calls from Gordon Brown (pm at time), Clarence Mitchell, huge legal team, meetings with the Pope etc... All distinctly fishy IMHO

I guarantee that thousands of parents do that every single day, because they have work or just need to get out of the house. Not something I would do BUT, they have paid a terrible price and is there any other price that is higher than losing your child. They have to live with it for the rest of their lives, knowing that wherever they go, people will be looking at them and blaming them. The guilt they must feel, I doubt that anyone on this site could fully comprehend trying to reconcile the sense of loss with the sense of guilt and I would not wish that on anyone... Anyone. No investigation should ever be cut short just because of money. If there are any leads, they should be followed up to find out what happened. She needs to be found. We can't just think that it does not matter what happened to her because the parents left her alone, thinking she was safe. Either way, she needs to be found.

No they left three children alone, two of which were babies. Two doctors could afford the price of a babysitter. I don't hate them but I struggle to feel sorry for them. They do not come across as likeable people. The money thing is an issue because there hasn't ever really been any new evidence. All the time that there is evidence and there's leads to investigate, then yes they should be followed. You can't and shouldn't throw money at an investigation that has run its course.

I'm not getting personal Y Ddraig Goch and I get why people blame them. You have to shake your head at leaving children alone but do they have to come across as likealbe for people to focus on their missing child?

Everything should be done that can be done to find Maddie. That is not in question. However until new evidence or significant new information comes to light, what do you expect the authorities to do?
