My dad never took me to football he hated all sport, so Ive nearly always gone on my own. First introduction was in 1976 I was 15, my head of year teacher took me and a mate from school. It was an hours drive from cranbrook in kent. I now live in hastings and drive up, dont meet anyone, and rarely have a drink.

But I do love going to selhurst park, I like the ultras, Kayla the eagle and the crystals, all 3 no other club has as far as I know. I am a ST in the arfur and greet the occupants of surrounding seats like old family.

I'll be there for the boro game but Im starting to lose that sense of anticipation, I feel a bit drained to be honest.

It's a way of stepping outside my usual day to day existence. I feel I am getting involved in an adventure and a Palace season is an unfolding story, and you never quite know how it will end (mind you at the moment ...)

I am generally a quiet person but I can let rip at a match in a way I never would anywhere else. I can feel extremes of emotion - elation, anger, frustration, fear - without loading those feelings onto someone else i.e.friends and family.

It's all a grand drama with its passion and its heroes and villains, but, in some ways, it's not real life.I can walk away from when it gets too much, and come back later when I'm ready for more.
