I made this video looking at Puncheon vs Stoke City. It is a little rough because it is the first one I have done. Aso, it cut out some of the analysis (not sure if I accidently paused it during recording or what happened). So it is missing the goal against us which I believe is partly Puncheon's fault due to lack of communication. I will post the link to Youtube (and hopefully they don't take it down). It is best to watch it in 1.5X or 2X speed because it takes me a little time to switch between programs and this will speed that up.

Check it out and let me know what you think.

Excellent initiative! Seriously, get the man from Canada on the coaching staff.

I love Punch, too, but his game falls apart when his confidence is low.

And when his confidence drops, so does his concentration.

He's a player who needs a lot of loving from team mates and fans to bring out the best.

Perhaps giving him the captaincy would increase his self-esteem.

This was really interesting. Do some more and your process will get slicker. If you could cover the player etc over a few games that would be good.

Can you do one on Ward. I felt his performances had improved recently but others tell me otherwise.

You were right on a few things but in my view off on a few others. He won't block every passing lane that you seem to insist he should do, if you run in too hard to block a pass you leave yourself off-balance and out of position if the player in possession decides to run with it instead. What you do highlight is the half-hearted nature of some of his blocking and closing down and lack of confidence when moving up to support the attack.

Milivojevic was making his debut so the midfield are not used to having a proper sitting DM, so they are still nervous about leaving gaps in behind. At Stoke I thought the defensive line was very poor in pushing out after making a clearance or ball up to Benteke. The big gap between Benteke and midfield was a lot down to the defence not pushing up and telling the midfield to go too.

I think Puncheon does need to be dropped, Cabaye has been alright this season, Puncheon has lost confidence and could benefit from being rested.

Yeah, that is the problem with doing analysis on just one player as it is definitely not all his fault. It is interesting to see his lack of confidence right now and he definitely should not be starting. Thanks for the feedback!

I didn't watch it all. It seemed a really good effort. I guess we will never know the extent to which his positioning was tactical discipline

Not seen the vid.

Sometimes you learn as much about players from watching them against supposed weaker opposition and applying common sense.

Puncheon really struggled to escape his man a few times against the mighty Blackpool in the the league cup at the start of the season. So conclusion once decent player lost a yard of pace and isn't going to cut it this season. Start looking for a replacement.

Tomkins played in the same game. Looked slow, got under the ball a couple of times and easily rolled by a league two forward - sound familiar ? We had our pants pulled down by West Ham for a player that's neither an accomplished centre half or full back although looks as though the latter may be his best.
