I find it laughable when people call arsenal a joke club. Every year they are among the elite while spending less than those above them. Every year they challenge for a cup and have won a few. Every year they make it through their CL group and they still play the best football in the PL in my opinion. I find them far more tolerable than any of the other big teams and it's only their harmless fans that annoy me. They went 8 seasons without challenging for any cups before winning the FA cup 2 years running. That's the confirmation to the fans the finance is far and away more important than any glory and with a long waiting list they can afford to do it. Until the fans make a stand, this won't change. 1 month of boycotting the emirates might make them realise running a football club with no attempt to really compete can't last. Even the non season ticket sales and loss of food and merchandise etc would hurt. A new manager might make a difference but I'd still guess they'd need to spend £60 mil plus more than they do. Part of their problem is they buy similar players up top and shrinking violets at the back. All their previous successes came from tough back 4's that took no sh1t. Their current defenders can't stand their ground. The funniest was when Mertesacker was trotting about doing nothing, planted to the spot whenever anything went off in the box. Compare that to the league title winning centre halves, throwing themselves in front of shots, anything. If Arsenal players put more passion and fight into their football as they do their social media photos, tricks and pranks they'd be a better challenger. Really they are like a bunch if teenagers pretending at it. That lap of honour after beating 10 man Leicester last season was embarrassing. They then lost several matches straight after. Their attacking football is easy on the eye but with no guts behind it they'll never win more than the FA cup. Edited by Rudi Hedman (08 Mar 2017 10.03am)

They are becoming what Spurs were. Happy to take the money, show media interest in all sorts of players and sign none of them. That is why their best players will keep leaving like Sanchez. Little girls when it matters. Yes I accept they haven't won the PL since 2003-04 but perhaps they were restricted in the 'Transfer market' owing to the vast expenditure on their new stadium. They have of course competed in the CL for the past 17 seasons but it is their lack of trophies in recent seasons which is damaging them and Wenger.But they are still a very big club and respected worldwide as such.

Heard one moaning about this being their worst period ever. Fcuk me, Arsenal fans of the 60s, 70s, early 80s would have given their left nut for the sort of success Wenger has brought them every single year for the last 2 decades. Instead they stay well back and go on a good run at the end to cement 4th. If they balanced the team with less featherweights and got that Suarez when they could've or a midfield general they could've done it.

There is talk about Arsenal having an abundance of small/slight players and that this contributes to their ills. When I look at the Barcelona team and see the likes of Messi,Suarez,Neymar,Xavi,Iniesta etc they aren't exactly brawny, physical players.And Macherano isn't the biggest but he has been deployed in central defence.Guess it's all about the sheer quality of players and how they are integrated into a team. This post has been merged from a topic called 'Arsene Wenger' by Guntrisoft Will be very interesting to see how they go next season, operating on the fair assumption that Wenger retires at the end of the season. Talk of Allegri coming in - a manager used to success at Juve and Milan. There'll undoubtedly be a period of consolidation (three seasons at the minimum) before they're in with a realistic shot at the title. The Gooners haven't proved themselves to be capable of such patience thus far... imagine if they missed Europe altogether the season after dumping Wenger!
