There is talk about Arsenal having an abundance of small/slight players and that this contributes to their ills. When I look at the Barcelona team and see the likes of Messi,Suarez,Neymar,Xavi,Iniesta etc they aren't exactly brawny, physical players.And Macherano isn't the biggest but he has been deployed in central defence.Guess it's all about the sheer quality of players and how they are integrated into a team. Here there are 38 tough matches and there's more need for physical and strength and stamina over the whole season. Guardiola and Klopp are finding this out right now. You then have to confront these teams with more to give than you.

They could be a close 2nd or 3rd, ready to pounce when Chelsea and/or Man City mess up, like last season or seasons in transition from manager changes or squad overhaul. Instead they stay well back and go on a good run at the end to cement 4th. If they balanced the team with less featherweights and got that Suarez when they could've or a midfield general they could've done it. Well they did finish 2nd last season? And third the season before I think? Suarez I don't know. They offered enough for him - it did satisfy a clause in his contract. But Liverpool just said no. Suarez could have sued them for breach of contract but he chose not to. Presumably because he didn't want to join them enough. Midfield general and decent CB have been complaints for years. And they are fair criticisms to an extent. But playing someone like that isn't how Wenger wants to play football. That's his choice. If the board think that the standard of achievement he gets without doing that is sufficient then that's up to them. But hearing Arsenal fans bitching and whining like little babies about it over the last season(s) just does my head in. They do not know how lucky they have been. Does that mean a new manager couldn't come in and do a better job now? No. But it will take a lot of money and a potentially a lot of time.

I fully understand the physical demands of the PL, however look at Chelsea - they have in their midfield, Hazard, Willian, Pedro, Fabregas and used to have Oscar and they are more technical rather than physical.What they do have however is a balance with the likes of Matic and Oscar who provide more physicality even though Kante is just a small chap.But Arsenal have the likes of Coquelin, Elnenny and Xhaka who provide a more physical threat to the opposition.

It has been said that it will be Wenger who decides whether he wishes to go at the end of the season.Yet to be convinced that he will have the final say if there is a difference of opinion between himself and the 'Board'. Maybe this is just a 'Tactical' approach taken so that it is not seen that Wenger has been asked to stand down, out of respect for him, and it was Wenger's decision not to carry on.

Last season they only finished 2nd because Spurs were at relegation fighting Newcastle and couldn't win the league so took it easy. They cannot claim they were threatening for the title straight after that cringeworthy lap of honour after beating 10 man Leicester. Spurs were. Every season they have a late run of form when the weather is nicer and it matters less, other teams have their flip flops on. Then there's hope of some signings and young fans think they'll win the league. I haven't checked the season they finished 3rd but I suspect they were 3 or probably more results away from top and were never ever close to top or even 2nd. Again another late effort that makes it look a bit more palatable on the league table. The players should take responsibility as well tbf to Wenger. All looking down at the ground when they concede. Nobody leading.

Nobody leading. Chelsea ran away with it that season, but they finished in 3rd, 5 points ahead of United in 4th and 11 ahead of Spurs in 5th. Season before they were 4th but just 7 points off the title. I do agree that there are issues with the strength and character in the team. But for the outlay (player spend and wages) very few managers achieve as much as Wenger. I think he probably should consider stepping down - he'll be closing on 69 by the end of next season. But changing Wenger isn't going to get them winning the title. It would require a step change in the ethos of the club - a complete revision of their purchasing principles and wage structure. And that means changes at a board level as well.
