Neither of the goals done to Hennessy tonight. Just a bad all round team performance. Not enough class within the 11 and perhaps down to 3 matches in 7 days and losing Sakho?

It was a poor performance without the ball, not with it to be fair. Very much a Pardew team type of performance. The sort of performance that your keeper rescues you with an outstanding display, unfortunately Wayne doesn't do that often, not often at all.

I agree and youve backed up your opinion with fact and reason. Thanks for saving me the time to write it too.

es him credibility which he then gives up by appearing to be limp wristed and having no discernible
Character. A keeper should inspire the defence, not the other way around.

Now onto Pickford, who you seem to have singled out for some reason. He plays behind a crap defence, doesn't stop every shot and yet you are using that as defence of Hennesey. The two are mutually exclusive. So let's do a comparison shall we. Pickford is 8 years younger, 4 inches shorter. He has a massively higher saves percentage, but let's put that into context shall we.

If Jordan Pickford had conceded that 2nd goal he wouldn't be getting called out on the Sunderland message boards, because it is (and here is the key point) an isolated mistake.

When it happens on multiple occasions then that is called a trend.

A trend is what tends to happen most times.

Most times is what you would call normal.

I have zero faith in Hennesey at this level because of the trends with him in goal.

Why arent the GK coaches advising him on positioning? If the answer is they have then why isnt he following it? Why is he still first pick?

Like I said on another thread. When you have a truly class keeper suddenly you realise what you have been putting up with. When Nige first came, once he settled in it was a revelation.

Same now in my opinion. The defence doesn't trust WH. They get jumpy when they have to rely on him. He doesn't come out nearly enough, doesn't command the area and just doesn't look dominant enough. He rarely makes saves that are out of the ordinary. He's a journeyman.

When we get a proper keeper we will look back and say why didn't we do it earlier.

Yes if only we had signed someone like the French No 2 .

A real mystery why he didn't perform. I also don't understand why he appears unhappy in verdant South London

Not a mystery , never played in a league where he might have to perform every week.

I don`t think he is good enough....balls going under him.
glorious attempts to save but nope it gets past him....if its within a yard of him he seems okay. Pity I like him but ....

This is in many ways becoming a pointless debate as opinion is more polarised that probably on any other issue. For some,
if we win and even better if we keep a clean sheet it's down to the back four supporting and covering up for a keeper so bad the like of which has never been seen before. If we lose responsibility rests solely with said keeper and crys go out for an ageing past hero.

For others Wayne is a proven international who is let down by the often farcical defending we often seem to gravitate towards.

We keep trying to sign alternatives but none seem to work out and for whatever reason Wayne keeps the shirt.

We have had some great keepers at the club and some absolute stinkers. In my opinion Wayne sits somewhere in the middle.

Regular as clockwork - when we lose we usually blame either the referee or the goalkeeper. Yesterday it was both. Little mention of our abysmal, often frantic, and hoof ball defending. Poor positioning and marking. Inability to hold the ball and then pass the flaming thing. All worryingly evident against Burnley who were well drilled and lethal on the break.
Hennessey not to blame but who mentions the guy who gave the ball away for both their goals: Milosevic?
Or the manager who takes off our top scorer and puts on two lightweights (Remy & Campbell) A Pardew-esque substitution one might say?

Made a quality save in the game, and neither goals were his fault...
