We best get get scouting then. There will be better out there. We just need to go and find them. Most other teams seem to mamange it. And we're a much more attractive proposition than we were even last season.
Burnley's goalie looked decent yesterday. Where did they find him?

I'm not saying wd couldn't find one if we scouted well. What I'm saying is that it would be unlikely a good current premiership keeper would come to us so you're looking at lower leagues or foreign leagues. We thought we'd bought a top keeper in the summer and it didn't work out. City persist with bravo who is pretty poor. Liverpool bought some wonder kid to replace minulet and it didn't work out. So what I'm trying to say (probably badly) is its not that easy to go out and buy a top quality keeper.

Really? Everton and West Ham and probably Bournemouth fans would disagree for a start.

Given his performances since coming back from Injury so might Southampton fans where Forster is concerned

West Brom are viewed as a stable PL club. Even if we stay up I think that there will be question marks over whether we are "established" or not.

I left out Everton and West Ham as I would argue that they have greater name recognition than us and the other teams I listed. Bournemouth's keeper saves shots on target at an identical rate as Hennessey - 64% - it's just that he's seen a lot more than Wayne so he lets in more than Wayne.

Forster is saving shots at a rate of 68%. Marginally better than Hennessey (although this is pre- and post-injury stats combined).

Meanwhile, Heaton saves shots on target at a rate of 77% for Burnley - that mecca for international footballers. If Hennessey was as competent, he'd have saved an additional 15 goals.

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.

WBA are having their best season in years. Prior to this season they have been mainly in the bottom half and on top of that, they are based in West Bromwich. So basically, if they can do it, then we definitely can.

Do you think that being based in London makes a difference? What does where you are based have to do with it?

Ask Orient fans their opinion......

His name is Karius and he wasn't impressive at all.But he is only 23 and must have been a good keeper for his former club Mainz, else Klopp wouldn't have signed him and put him in the team.

People criticised Mignolet but I have always found him to be a capable keeper.Couldn't understand how Karius got in to the team and Mignolet was dropped.

Heaton was picked up from Bristol City, Pickford came through the ranks at Sunderland (who had previously had their fingers burned with £9 mill Gordon)

I don't know where we get a keeper from but the No 1 in the French league didn't work out and spending big is no guarantee.

Does being based in London make a difference when it comes to attracting players over clubs in less desirable places? Of course it does. Pretty blooming obvious that one.

It's not your job or mine to find a quality keeper who fits Palace's budget, it's Allardyce's. Mandanda was brought in by Pardew, who is a fan of expensive / flashy things; Big Sam has shown a much more discerning eye for reasonably-priced quality.

We needed a CB, LB and a defensive midfielder. Sam brought in Sakho (loan), Schlupp, van Aarnholt and Milivojevic. All of them have made a positive impact to a greater or lesser extent. I have faith that he knows where to go get a shot-stopper too.

Minginglet is even worse at stopping shots than Hennessey: 59%. Karius? 62%.

Of course, these are cold stats without the nuance of the real world performances attached. A keeper's worth can also be counted by how well he reads the game, collects crosses and directs the defense - all three areas in which Hennessey is often found lacking.

Against Burnley, he let in 3 goals at his near post (including the one disallowed). That's unacceptable. And, rightly chalked off as it was, his "effort" at the handled goal was abject; he flapped around lik a dancing clown while the ball trickled under his body and in.

I have praised Hennessey for his better play of late but much of that appears to have been the result of having Sakho around who is so good he takes the pressure off everyone (Kelly, for example, was notably worse again this weekend). But let's not forget, this is still the goalkeeper who nutmegged himself after a simple catch at Villa to lose us that game. He doesn't have the mental or physical toughness required at this level, and a new 'keeper is #1 on my summer wish list.

It says a lot about his improved performances this season that you're having to use an example from the middle of last season for where he made a major mistake. Yes, he's an average keeper, certainly not one of the PL's best, although neither is he the worst, and he doesn't generally make match-winning saves. But neither does he cost us points every game as some on here would suggest.

As I said, he will be in goal for the next 3 games. What happens in the Summer depends on whether Mandanda goes, whether Speroni gets yet another 1 year deal (I hope not) and what other positions need filling, such as CB, at least 1 more forward and a good number 10. Posters have suggested Pickford - if he is so great, how come Sunderland are already down? Or is it that a keeper is only as good as the defence in front of him?

A bit harsh on Pardew, anyone who had the temerity to question whether Mandanda would be any good was shot down on here. And as Ligue 1 top keeper for a few seasons, it wasn't unreasonable to expect him to do well. He was also incredibly cheap - at the time roughly €1 million?

The point remains, there's probably 7-8 teams that want /need to to upgrade their No 1 keeper. Like 20 goal a season strikers, easier said than done.

What are you talking about? He had below par season, it was not as bad a the nightmare seasons Hennessy has had. Despite not being at his best that season, he still was better than Wayne has been

Could you Hennessy lovers please explain one thing to me

It seems that in your eyes...
When McCarthy made mistakes he was not good enough
If Jules makes a mistake he is too old and not good enough
If Mandanda makes a mistake he is not good enough and a waste of money

So why is it that when Hennessy makes basic errors, you defend him?
