Which illustrates your touching naivete about the way such matters happen at times in the real world,on all sides of the ideological divide

General Talk seems to be a private club with the same half dozen people trying their hardest to batter each other into submission so I don't bother much and prefer to have my "general chatting" elsewhere where it isn't quite as cliquey

I rest my case

I don't really think there is anything inherently wrong with working for MI-5 or 6. Whilst I might disagree with some of the things they have done in the past to some extent for the most part they serve a necessary purpose in protecting UK security and interests.

As for back then, well there was a cold war on, and its not like they were the Stasi or KGB.

As opposed to my simply making a valid (even if you disagree with it) point in the context of the substance of the thread that in the real world security services of all persuasions have at times stitched up innocent people because of their views...

It's not the point that you make but the way in which you make it that has probably put off large numbers of people from joining in General Talk discussions.

I know that I don't bother much here

I agree, Legal is one of the more supercilious of the 'comrades'.

You should take part.More sensible posting will have a ripple effect. The post you object to (and being serious for a moment, I get why) was my way of trying to respond to what I think was just the kind of post you object to.That's why I get involved with him and some of the other silly "lefty" bashers..I abhor it..but if I then fall too much into the trap myself...fair enough,I shouldn't

I have done in the past but invariably however truthful and accurate my posts may be they are invariably ignored by the main protagonists who prefer to continue to try and knock seven bells out of each other than further the topic under discussion.

There are other forums where wide ranging discussions are held without the need to insult each rather than discuss the topic and I shall continue to use them and just keep HOL for Crystal Palace related matters

Now, now - let's not turn this into another tiresome "Midlands Eagle" thread.

There are quite a few posters in the same vein as Legal in the 'comrades' group that are not only supercilious but also overbearing, condescending and patronizing which has put a lot of the posters off from indulging in certain threads due to their attitudes.
Perhaps it is the way they come across on their keyboards but I feel they need to post decent replies to certain posts and not try and take it over with the idea that"Bulls*** baffles Brains" and treat others as stupid or simply imply they do not know what they are posting. In my opinion they are not that clever really but need to think before they post and realise that all people have their own opinions even if they are not the same as theirs.
We all read things in a different way and make our own minds up and have our own ideas and thoughts. It would be nice if we could all respect each others views instead of trying to score points over others. Really nice!

Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky.
