Sadly, I think they have enough to finish in the top 2 this season. Although they have just lost Duffy to injury - potentially out for their remaining games.

They are a deluded bunch, but you have to remember they lost a generation of fans while playing at Gillingham and the Withdean. Most of them have no idea why they hate Palace ! I genuinely don't know of many that have BHA as their ' first ' team but the old adage of '' build it and they will come '' has certainly worked since they moved to the Amex.

Some of their old school fans don't want us to go down, they would rather resume hostilities with us in the PL next season.

There really aren't that many threads on Brighton on HoL and there often aren't that many replies. I occasionally pop and have a look at NSC and there will often be three or four threads about us going at the same time with many many replies.

Perhaps it will change when they go up this season?

I hope we stay up (obviously), get them at home on the first day of the season, and give them an absolutely crushing spanking that they will remember for years and years.

I live a 30 min train ride from Brighton.

Don't see or hear much about Brighton in local pubs nor is there much evidence of any Brighton shirts/car stickers etc in my vicinity.

If I go to local football sometimes there are Brighton supporters/sympathisers in attendance as evidenced by their ghastly shirts or comments made whilst watching the football on the TV in the bar. Also sometimes hear words to the effect "Should be some more here today as Brighton are away" etc etc. I wouldn't say there is much evidence of overwhelming support in my area and surrounds.

What I do like is seeing an old chap in one of the locals who is a regular and is always wearing his Palace scarf.Terrific !

And there are some supporters of ours from a delightful 'Private Estate' who are seated in the nice padded seats at the ground !!!! Also I a informed that on the night of the Speroni testimonial there were a lot of Palace supporters waiting for the train at Angmering station ! So certainly NO overwhelming Brighton support around where I live !!!!

My office in Hove has about 300 people in and all of them that support a football club support Brighton as their first or second team. And they are a deluded bunch of smug c**ts as well.

That said, my office is 5 minutes walk from where the Goldstone used to be. Also the members of the running club I belong to are primarily Brighton fans (although with a pretty decent contingent of Palace fans too to be fair).

I discussed this with my dad at the weekend and he said that having lived in Derby and Southampton, he developed a hatred for both of those clubs because he was constantly hearing about them in those respective places. Well, of course, what would you expect? Actually, he used to go to Southampton games as an away fan most weeks regardless of who they were playing. But anyway, his point is, my hatred of Brighton is probably mostly born out of knowing significantly more Brighton fans than fans of any other club and all that does is exacerbate the notion of the existing rivalry that dates back before I was even born. If I was living in Sheffield I might grow to dislike Sheffield Wednesday, or if I lived in China I might grow to dislike Manchester United (just kidding!).

I don't begrudge the Brighton fans down here chirping on about how well they are doing. Every fan of every club doing well does so (although most the Chelsea fans I know still seem to be finding something to whinge about). I wouldn't expect an office in Hove to be full of Palace fans either. What I am trying to say, that as surrounded by Brighton fans as I am, most of whom haven't held back in their joy that Palace are having a sh*t season, I will take a lot of pleasure out of them blowing their beans again.

What I'm not suggesting is that everyone has to feel the same way, or that in Worthing (or wherever you are) that it's exactly the same as my experience and therefore that you have to be of the same opinion.

Yeah, I can't see them not finishing in the top 2. Even if Huddersfield continue their form, Brighton's form seems more of a blip than them going off the rails and they ought to pick up enough points to hold them off. I think it would be their biggest blow up from the last 4 years if they didn't now though.

The only contradiction I might make, is that there seems a lot of pressure on them now. The fans and pundits have heralded them as a promotion favourite for most of the season and there even seem to be senior people at the club who have (in my opinion foolishly) suggested that the club really need promotion this year for financial reasons. And it's not like they haven't crumbled under pressure before, many of the players still playing for them have experienced it in a Brighton shirt. I'd still bet on them to finish 2nd, but the increased pressure and expectation could un-stick them.

Rest assured I don't live in Worthing.I am further west than that !

I readily admit getting into a contretemps with Brighton supporters down here not because of their outward support for their team verbally or the fact they are wearing their colours but for the fact either they I have heard them denigrating our team or either revelling in the fact that we have gone behind, lost etc etc. Like a 'Red rag' to a bull for me !

Yeah same. It hasn't been the case all the way through my life, I admit, but in recent years I've been reasonably quiet about the rivalry and it's just been them baiting me. It's partly that I have grown up a bit but also because they've been largely successful in the second tier, albeit never able to seal the deal, and we've been caught up in difficult battles in the top tier so there hasn't been a huge amount to banter about for me!

As for wearing colours, I'd never give anyone grief for their colours if they are minding their own business. I do volunteer work with kids at a running event where loads of them run round in Brighton replica kits. I can assure you I cheer them on as loudly as the other kids!

The worst experience I've had with BHA fans was a couple of years ago in an Indian restaurant in Hove. There was a group of us , including women and children, and the kids had their Palace shirts on. The Brighton fans were all male, in their 30's - 40's. They proceeded to verbally abuse us, kids and all.

I told the manager, a friend of mine, that I wasn't going to stand for it any longer. He told me he was ready to pitch in with us together with his mate, Monty Panesar and Monty's brother who were at the next table to us !

When fronted. all the guys backed off. Total w***ers. I don't condone violence but they made me see red.

Absolutely disgusting behaviour by men who thought they were all "Macho".In fact I have heard the saying "People who think they are all macho are not mucho".
Appear to have been all "Low-life" types who probably couldn't count their testacles and get the same number twice.

Sadly, I bet every club has a handful of people like that. Blokes looking to intimidate smaller people, children or smaller groups of folks to make themselves feel hard.

I sometimes wear Palace branded stuff and can fortunately say I've never had any nasty stick for it away from the football grounds.

I think this is true and I am fairly sure Palace are included in that list (and wasn't there an incident on a train a couple of years ago)?

Some people are just knobheads.

I don't know that story, but I'd be surprised if we don't have some knobhead fans like that, just because all clubs do.
