in England, you support your local team.

in Ireland, if you wish to watch good football, you choose whichever English club you prefer. No geography. Many elderly taxi drivers i meet are Leeds utd...reason ? Leeds used to be important back in the 1970's.

in May 2016 all the irish school playgrounds were littered with kids wearing Leicester shirts.

traditional top 6 teams are always well supported.

Everton has an irish connection for sure.

Chelsea's perceived connections to Glasgow Rangers and true blue skinheads is a massive turnoff.

But i reckon emigration patterns then become significant. In the past the irish used to travel for work to all parts of the UK. Today its mostly London. So, my own story is that of irish fans generally. Leeds/Liverpool/Everton is the past.

Sadly ManUre is very dominant, not helped by that t...sser Keane at the helm.

A significant group of irish support Glasgow Celtic, but a bigger group regard the SPL as the worst joke in world football. The SPL is Like a bunch of League Two clubs with a couple of Brightons/Newcastle's thrown in to give the whole charade some credibility. And its career suicide for any talented european player to sign in the SPL , take the money and watch your skills go soft at the hands of Dunfermline or some such.

So long as Brexit keeps the financial jobs in the city, Palace has a good future among the irish.

and as an historic note, you would not believe just how irish Arsenal was forty or fifty years ago....whereas today, arsenal are just a joke club supported by people who drive souped up bangers.

Paul Hill (one of the Guildford Four) used to drink in my bar at times & was a huge Arsenal supporter (as well as Celtic)
