Since then, European peace has largely existed because the technological capacity for war and its consequences, even without nuclear weapons, is so horrific, that its self defeating. So we fight wars with nations far away that don't have that kind of capability. Because on some level, humans are c**ts and we like to f**k over people who are weaker than us.
