I ran out of loo roll earlier. No doubt to some that is the fault of the liberal left too.

Either the left or the Muslims..

Not the true Muslims. Don't they use the left hand and wash ass and hand method?

Personally I'd prefer to wah my ass every time. Something quite therapeutic about it (Like standing in a shower for a few minutes with water just raining down your head and back). No wonder it cleanses the soul or some, erm, cr@p. But a bidet can do that. And I'd rather not scoop my crap away from my ass.

Can't believe a thread about dog racing has turned into a mud slinging session about the left and Muslims. For Christ sake get a grip of yourselves...

Back to the thread..

Quite sad to hear it's closed. I had some great nights out at Wimbledon dogs when I met my first boyfriend. I had just moved out of home, into our first flat and had my first full time job. We would go there , sometimes have a meal where they offered table betting facilities and then get a cab from there to crystals (which is also closing it's doors soon) some great memories of finishing work as a manager at hills and going over there for the greyhound derby which my company sponsored. In the days when Billy whizz used to race..

Sad day for nostalgia

So sad to hear they are closing, there's not meny dog race tracks about now, Crayford is the nearest to me and is always a good night out with some great offers but they never seem to promote them selves well and simply get forgotten

Wouldn't surprise me if that went. It looks virtually derelict from outside . Was over there at Sainsbury on wednesday

Yeah it's always had that apperence from outside not appealing at all but once in side it's really good,
I can't understand why they don't market there business better as it's great for a night out or a family/works do

We should have a palace fans meet up there

I live just round the corner from Wimbledon dog track. Whilst it's sad there are no more dog racing tracks in London it has been on a downward trend for sometime now and the new ground with housing will greatly benefit that area which has become really rundown recently.

The ups and downs of Palace have left me older than my years

Oh almost forgot the good old Tuesday and Friday BAGS races. Rigged to f***... shop customer used to come in quite regularly with the winner of races before the race had actually taken place.fortunately as shop staff we had telephone betting accounts with other bookmakers solely for this purpose.. handy little extra on the wages some weeks ..

Aah memories

Good point. It's like tying certain dogs leads up high so that they couldn't lay down to sleep the night before a race.
Actions such as this (and worse) is why i hate the 'sport'.

I think you have to separate Greyhound racing from the lack of care after their racing days are over. They are fast and reports suggest that they like a quick sprint as opposed to my Westies who would take a week to lap the track---"Horses" for courses Innitt!

One of our greatest ever Players Johhny Byrne had a greyhound which used to race at the Wimbledon track.

Greyhounds are the easiest pets to look after - I have had 4 ex racers.

They like to sleep a lot, eat obviously and are happy to be walked to a field and let off and belt round for 5 minutes at top speed!

They don't usually bother with other dogs and all of mine rarely barked, did a mess in the house or get ill very often.

They are great companions...........

Simple economics really.

No it's not that simple actually.

Wimbledon dogs like others were popular until the owner of the stadium realised how much he could get for the site redeveloping it and getting a bung from AFC Wimbledon.
He then ran down facilities so gradually people stopped going... exactly the format that Bristol Dog Track did to get IKEA built there.... us racing owners were promised a new track which we are still waiting for nearly 20 years on.

So no.... it's not simple economics, it's corporate greed and bullying in actual fact.

And as for the bookies, they should be ashamed for not helping to fund the welfare of the retired/injured greyhounds that have been slaughtered in their thousands because no one cared for them.
