They are banned, I don't want to see action taken against us and this could potentially happen as the FA would love us as a scapegoat. I don't see why they are necessary. If they were not in the ground yesterday would it have changed a thing? No, but it would have been better for us and the police and stewards. I just don't think it's worth it.

Setting off bangs inside a football stadium at one of the most popular clubs in the world just a week or so after a terrorist attack a matter of miles up the road is always a very sensible idea....

Nice one.

At the risk of getting shouted down, this has to stop. It's not big and it's not clever. My 8 year old loves Palace and singing the songs etc but was in tears at Bolton, as were a number of other kids. Lots of people moved to a 'safer' part of the ground, or just left.

I have every respect for the HF and what they've done for our club. Our fans are internationally renowned as a result and I have Americans asking me for tickets to games because they've read and heard about us. But to me, that's a step too far. Of course we want noisy, passionate fans. The last thing we want though is the wider fan base of older people, kids etc not wanting to go to games because it's unpleasantly intimidating.

Plus, I suspect at some point the club will get in trouble too.

Whilst I respect your point of view I disagree...I think its a (for me) welcome addition to the 'spectacle' which is the English game...it's a common thing abroad and we're probably the ONLY culture that frowns upon this...and it's pretty much because we've been used to sitting on our flabby arses whilst being fed prawn sandwiches for the last couple of decades...bring back safe standing and areas for smoke bombs I say...

Categorically yes of course kids should be welcome at away games. This is 2017, not 1987. My son absolutely loves being and is proud to be a Palace fan. Part of the reason is the excitement of going to away games. That includes the intense noise, the standing and (don't tell his mother) the odd swear word. Being in the away end with the atmosphere is part of the draw for him. I doubt either of us would bother going to sit in the West Brom/Stoke/Villa etc etc family stand.

We live in Birmingham so 2/3 of grounds are easier to get to than Selhurst. 13 of the 15 games my lad has been to since he was 5 years old are away games. The same applies to loads of other people. To suggest that a future generation of kids of exiled Palace fans should be forgotten about in favour of a few flares and bangs is quite frankly nonsense.

I am not saying lose the atmosphere - I'm just questioning the need for (illegal) flares. What do they really add?

The irony being that its the oldies complaining about the behaviour of the kids (in relative terms)...its the younger generation that want to ramp the atmosphere back up to the levels I remember as a kid back in the 80's standing, chanting both home and away...too many of us have been lulled into early retirement when it comes to supporting nowadays...finding it too much to be bothered to get up out of our seats...or keep a chant gouing for more than 30secs

It strikes me that a lot of people's complaints about flares (etc) is an instinctive complaint that comes from being told that they are "not what we want to see in football grounds".

I say that fully understanding that there might be fire safety issues with them and that is why grounds ban them. But it doesn't seem that that is the reason for the specific fan complaints - the complaints seem to be just a repeat of received wisdom: "I did not like them because I know I am not supposed to like them".

If I had children that I took to the game, I feel that the language would bother me more than a bang and a bit of smoke!

Although I did hear a rumour that they would not serve alcohol in our end because of the flares ... if that is true ... then I change my opinion and I hate them.

FC Orlando have the right idea...a specific area for standing and smoke bombs...I mean FFS even the yanks are doing it and understand it adds to the atmosphere.....but ...it should be in a specific area so anyone that goes in there knows what to expect.

Stupid and obnoxious. I don't see how it even adds to the atmosphere - I think people like to set them off purely because they're not allowed and they enjoy breaking the rules.

you do have to have a bit of a brain cell missing to bring one into a ground like chelsea with all the cctv & then let it of, its is an offence under that random football act, if caught you will be arrested and liable to have a football ban, also they are bloody dangerous if they are marine flares these numpties have acquired...and all that smoke is annoying!

Toyah – I Want To Be Free Lyrics
I'm bored

Don't want to go to school
Don't want to be nobody's fool
Want to be me
Want to be me

Don't want to be sweet and neat
Don't want someone living my life for me
Want to be free

I'm going to turn this world inside out
I'M GOING TO TURN SUBURBIA UPSIDE DOWN
I'm going to walk the streets, scream and shout
I'm going to crawl through the alleyways, being very loud

Don't want to be told what to wear etc....

Flares.... this will probably be dealt with by the FA and/or Police.

Expect the club to have to answer concerns about safety and then take action.

As for Kids not being welcome at away games?

WTF

Anyone of any age is welcome to watch Palace home and away.

Kids are the future of our support and need to be nurtured and not made to feel unwelcome, scared or in the way of others.

Think on... we were kids ourselves once... I loved going home and away as a young lad and now I'm 62, I love to see kids at games.

Totally agree, going away to chelsea now, is nowhere as bad as in the good ole days, bad ole days depending on your viewpoint...
going back to the flares, the answer is for every paying customer (which we are) to be searched including bags, have to do that when you go to the O2 for example, why should PL grounds be any different?
