Ricky Gervais pisses me off. He is just as religious as a strictly catholic or Muslim person. Just as judgemental and just as self conscious. I'm not religious but you won't catch me ramming atheism down people's throats because of my own insecurity. Live and let live.

I think that is very harsh. How is Gervais 'ramming atheism down people's throats'? Is what he does taught in schools like religion is? No it is voluntarily accessed....No one is forced to listen to him.

If Atheism isn't promoted then how does its ideas spread?

If there isn't a counter argument being presented to religious indoctrination then how can you ensure fairness in the market place of ideas?

He is pretty self righteous about a lot of his opinions. I've gone right off the fella, but I don't think he's been particularly forceful about atheism. I could be wrong. I've seen quotes from him on memes, but people spreading memes with his quotes on isn't necessarily him forcing his opinions on folks....

Having the capacity to be irrational does not make you on an equal footing with a religious person. That is just human frailty that everyone shares. It does not mean that you have to show reverence or respect for religion beyond simple politeness.

I think that makes you an idiot, rather than religious. Only very stupid people believe the world is flat, or people who deliberately embrace their own ignorance

Do you not listen to Radio 1? Talking like you're a moron is the most fashionable thing there is now.

I think for the most part, its because he's kind of paid to do it, as a comedian. So I don't really see it as being 'lectured to', because how seriously can you take the man. And in fairness, he's not actually saying anything that's blatantly untrue or unsustainable.

I'd imagine people are more p*ssed of the Gervais because he's an annoying c**t rather than for his 'preaching'. Plus he doesn't stop me in the street and ask me if 'I've Heard the Good News'.

Jesus is coming back you say, well that's not good news, it means everyone is going to die you c**k.

I unfollowed him on Facebook because he was really preachy about animal rights. I'm not going to kick cats or dogs but at the same time I don't need someone using the C word so regularly whilst telling us that humans are inferior to cats.

No, Radio 1 is a state sponsored crime against humanity. Someone I knew 'believes the world is flat'. They told me once, and now they won't talk to me.

I went on a rant with one of my friends about how stupid people are that believe in ghosts. He was nodding and agreeing the whole time. At the end he said "you're so right, they are idiots, but once my brother was in the house on his own and he saw the ghost of our Brazilian friend who had died the year before".

Anyway, that sounded vaguely relevant when I started typing it.

I don't follow celebrities on facebook, on the basis that they're all attention seeking c**ts. Reject all forms of god, even secular ones.

That's not entirely true, as I do follow Albert Camus and Michael Folcult, but as they're long dead I think they're acceptable c**ts - Their occasional quotes are quite anti-inspirational.

Although I do follow plenty of cat sites. Including that Syrian Cat Man, who is my hero of the year.

Danny Trejo is the only one I still follow.

I know it's not him posting, but a 5 foot tall, 72 year old Mexican looking muscle man posing with for pictures with his dogs is a joy.

That is just a question of degree.
Flat Earthers give you all kinds of explanations as to why their theories are correct in the same way that religious types justify their beliefs.
To say that you can't prove God does not exist is as dumb a reason for believing something as you can get.
You have people who will quibble over the detail of evolutionary theory but are happy to believe an unseen sky fairy made everything in seven days.
This kind of nonsense deserves no reverence or exemption from ridicule.

Any mug claiming the earth is flat wants to walk up the hill from Preston Park station on the way to work every morning. Flat my arse.
