Privatise the education system with government funded vouchers given to families based on their household income. Competition for standards and everyone has equal access to the system. Would be worth it for the NUT's reaction alone.
The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money. |

I have nothing against taxing Private Schools as they could probably afford it although a few would probably close but I would rather see any money spent on other things such as literacy/numeracy programs or holiday or after school provision. FSM for all is such a cheap shallow people pleaser.

We should encourage meritocracy not elitism. I agree, but meritocracy leads to what we have now. That is the bind. Those that succeed make the rules. What is the point of doing well in education if it has no meaning full advantage? Those that have money want their kids to well and so it goes.

But when it comes to equality of opportunity for children....I tend to agree with them. In terms of the state, all children should start off with a clean slate and be treated equality.

So are you saying that if you are working class and you do well in education that you have access to the same opportunities that rich kids in private schools have? I don't believe that is the case at all. None of the statistics back that up for example. People talk about meritocracy but within society the reality is very different.
