Putting aside the argument of how much someone really needs an annual holiday one way round it would be for schools to try and meet the parents halfway. They know some parents are going to do it. A couple of the schools near me did it where they made the October half term two weeks instead of one which allowed parents to book a holiday. Apparently.They didn't have many takers as you need to generally fly further away to go somewhere hot at that time of year and it ruled the uk.out to a lot of people due to the weather.

If your kid is smart it probably has no impact and they will easily catch up. If they're dumb c*** kids then let's face it school is wasted on them

If you don't play by the rules, I would not fine but throw them out of the system, or make them pay which have heard is up to circa £8,500 a year for a State school. It is our money they are wasting.

I'd allow each kid 5-7 days holiday a year based on them having attended over 95% of the time and to be approved by the Head. If it clashes with a major learning event it can be rejected. It's pretty obvious which parents take the piss and which ones have encouraged good attendance. I don't buy into the "your kids will learn more on a week away in the Costa Del Sol" but I do believe the whole situation can be made more flexible. Most major businesses cope with giving their staff 4 weeks holiday - even those working in teams. It would not be the end of the world for a kid to miss a week off. Make it more flexible, have a decent amount of criteria and have a bit of sense on both sides.
