are people looking at the same Brighton??

You think that PL survival will be a walk in the park for them, without any significant investment, based on Championship results? It'll be a first if they can achieve that.

Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing!

I don't believe him.

The only way that he will get a return on his investment is a prolonged stay in the PL which isn't possible without spending money.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

I'd tend to agree, but with the proposed increase in parachute payments, plus the TV money for a season, they'd receive the thick end of £200m for doing absolutely nothing beyond turning up. Even taking out their current annual loses, it will still return a huge chunk of what he's put it.

On the other hand, he could do what we're doing and invest in the squad, but with no guarantee of staying up (and don't we know it?) and risk getting back very little.

I would have thought, with relatively little need to spend on infrastructure (unlike us), they'd be chucking some sizeable money into playing staff, but they don't appear to be prepared to do that for whatever reason. We'll see soon won't we?

of course i dont but with a squad that along with Newcastle have walked thru a notoriously competitive division, I 'd say they are better placed to compete than we were at the same stage when we came up, even before the money is taken into account.

Competitive it may be, but there's a massive difference in quality between the Championship and the PL. We'll just have to see how they get on if they really are planning doing it on a shoestring.

Means very little. You have to turn a high possession winning team into a low possession low points scoring team that counter attacks more and clinically with little room for errors and mistakes.

Garvan bossing our defence into attack moves in the championship and then being found out on day 1 v Spurs a perfect example and one they'll relate to, especially as they wanted him to slot into their pattern of play.

The reverse is why some big clubs in disarray struggle after relegation.

Pains me to say it, but not sure that's the case. Brighton and the surrounding area, is, whatever we may think, a nice place to live. There's Gatwick 30 mins up the road, and London 50 mins away. They have excellent facilities and a new stadium.

Grim though it may be, you have to say they are probably quite an attractive proposition for players.

Not without putting money in their pockets, they aren't. It's always money first with footballers, anything else may make the difference between similar deals from otherwise similar clubs, but without cash on the table they aren't listening.

Relegation clauses in contracts cutting wages by 50% that are 80% or more likely to be triggered? That's the first consideration before how quick it is to fly home 3 times a year.

Of course. The players they'll be going for are up and coming from the Championship, and one or two Premier experienced old heads, one presumes. Their transfer rivals will be the likes of Burnley, whoever stays up from Hull Swansea and Us, and the other two promoted sides. Being so close to London, and a nice place to live will play in their favour, much as it does with us being a London side.

All of whom have more money and a better chance of staying up making the risk/reward more in our favour. Being near to Gatwick and London will be near to last of considerations. It'll be difficult for them there is no doubt and I hope they f*** it up epically, with a record low points score.

Fact is they'll be media darlings, and the smugness level will be off the charts should they enjoy any modicum of success. Having 6 points off them will be nice though.
