More to the point, it was to make a profit on a stock deal? WTF? Are people so low they are willing to kill multiple people just to make a few quid? Scratch that, of course they are. Why choose a football club (with the associated security) rather than, say, a board meeting of a big company?

I think that most people, given the option of 3.9m would probably be willing to try to kill a stranger.
