Alas Sunderland are going down and I very much doubt Defoe will be at the club next season. Certainly an option for us if we manage to stay up but if we persist with one up top and Benteke is still around I suspect Defoe will find himself on the bench quite a lot. We desperately need to bolster our forward line.

I cannot believe the posts on here! Yes he is well into his thirties but, if you read any article ablout him, he keeps himself super fit, has scored goals in a p*** poor team.
Why would we not want him on a 1/2 contract? Why would he always be on the bench? Wages would be high..yes but no transfer fee which would leave funds to upgrade in other departments.
I would have him in an instant and this, I believe, is going to happen.

He'd be the perfect signing for a newly promoted Brighton. Let's hope they don't realise.

Defoe-Benteke up front is suicide. None of the runs anymore. None of them does neither the necessary pressing, nor the closing of spaces in midfield.
Leave Milivojevic and Puncheon behind those 2 (without Cabaye)?? They would get eaten!

I can say the same thing about you if you think they run enough.
Benteke is a target man, extremely tall and well-built, and can't physically give the kind of performance a fast, high-pressing forward needs to offer in a match.

And Defoe just walks on the field most of the time for Sunderland. He's past it. Again, I really appreciated this guy 5-10 years ago
