What crap you spout, Michael.

You know full well that far more than '1%' of Muslims believe in a doctrine that is at odds with what you believe in as Liberal.

I was watching Bill Maher earlier, hardly an 'alt right' commentator, who gave a stat that 18% of Indonesians believed in honour killings. 18% of the Worlds most populous Muslim country believe in killing rape victims. How many believe gays are 'abominations'? I bet it's not the fabled '1%' you claim are responsible for giving Islam a bad name.

I agree with Maher that until liberals like yourselves start holding Muslims to account for their views, and stick up for liberalism, then you are just a bunch of hypocrites, using so-called 'Islamophobia' to try and demean your political opponents.

Seconded one hundred percent.

To the both of yous - Wahhabism - that's ISIS, AlQaeda, etc, You know, the ones that want to kill all infidels and have an 'Islamic' planet, and financed and promoted by Saudi Arabia, is a fanatical religious cult followed by less than 1% of all Muslims. Worry about them and not the other 99%. The latter aren't going to bomb you or run you over in London.

Wahhabism is definitely the biggest problem in Islam. I very much doubt that it's at one percent....you are probably quoting some apologetic's lies using doubtful 'definitions'.

However only a fool thinks that Wahhabism is responsible for the problems inherent within Islam.

Kermit should listen to Islamic reformers like Maajid Nawaz, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Irshad Manji to name but a few....All of which live in fear of their lives. People who actually live the problems within their faith or ex faith....Kermit should listen to them instead of burying his head in the sand and thinking 'Wahhabism' is the only issue.

As for the comparison there is no comparison, Islamic fundamentalism which has nothing to do with Islam is far worse.
Take a look at the moderates who did nothing whilst a student was murdered by his fellow Muslim students for blasphemy, of course it's worth pointing out it has nothing to do with Islam.

That'll be down to what's termed as the bystander effect and is not confined to one particular section of any society:

The bystander effect, or bystander apathy, is a social psychological phenomenon that refers to cases in which individuals do not offer any means of help to a victim when other people are present. The probability of help is inversely related to the number of bystanders. In other words, the greater the number of bystanders, the less likely it is that any one of them will help. Several variables help to explain why the bystander effect occurs. These variables include: ambiguity, cohesiveness and diffusion of responsibility

That'll go someway to explaining. One imagines it is closely linked in psychology with mob rule.
I'm sure someone can enlighten us.

It's simply incredible when you hear this argument.

To try to compare Christian fundamentalism to Islamic fundamentalism is idiotic....The scale of the problem for one makes the whole discussion ridiculous.... Maybe hundreds of years ago there would be a point..Maybe then we could discuss it...But today? Why would anyone attempt such a thing?...unless they were an apologetic or in cloud cuckoo land.

Notice any any Christians driving trucks over children lately? Noticed loads of beheadings from Christians?

Christian fundamentalism is a pain and the very occasional nutter attacks abolition clinics but Christian fundamentalism isn't worrying people in the city when they go to work in the morning. Christian fundamentalism isn't why our security services are stretched to the hilt and being paid record amounts of taxpayer's money to try to stop attacks.

The fundamentalists throwing people off rooftops aren't Christians and any comparison is beyond rational.

I was thinking of a hypothetic situation in which the roles were reversed, eg the USa was predominantly islamic and Syria was Christian. If this happened I was suggesting that fundamentalist christians may act in a similar way to how fundamentalist muslims are behaving.

Well, my points still kind of stand.

Isn't what you are saying here supporting the idea that all religions are the same? How much do you actually know about both of these religions?

For one, there aren't enough fundamentalist Christians in America. Not enough fundamentalist Christians who believe that Jesus supports murdering non Christians anyway.

Any extremist from any background is capable of...by definition extremism. The question is how popular is that movement and what does it support.

If my Aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle. I'm not sure what the point is.

Maybe some of them stood aside and were bystanders because blasphemy is actually against the law in pakistan.

You can actually be put to death by the pakistani state for blasphemy against old Mo or the religion.

I agree with you... "an extremist from any background is capable of..." and if a christian country was being attacked by a more powerful islamic country fundamentalists would attack them...
it's a theory. I could be very wrong.

Put quite simply. For all its faults Christianity is more tolerant than mediaval looking Islam.

I think there is something to what you say there when it comes to radical Islam. It's actually an interesting thing to think about. So you have my apologies for my initial ranty irritation. Obviously on mass, humans are essentially the same...it's the imperatives within the cultures that create the differences.

We are partly the sum of what came before.

I have problems with all mainstream religions but the tenets of Islam make it the least appealing of the majority ones.

However, while I have issues with mainstream Islam...it most definitely isn't radical Islam, so it's a different discussion on another level really.

I'm not that concerned about religions or people who get along with others....That's still the vast majority within Islam.

Nice 1 stirling. It's funny you should raise the points about the similarities between people because I was going to post about the similarities between the 2 religions. A lot of people don't realise, and I only discovered this the other day myself, but Muslims believe in the virgin birth, they also believe in the 2nd coming of Christ and there is a chapter in the Quran entitled Maryam which is devoted to Mary who a muslim man I was talking to said is revered as the holiest of all women in the Quran. So yeah, Christians and muslims have a lot in common. It would just be great if everyone could just get along....
Oh and as i said earlier i don't agree with fundamentalism from any side... just like just about everyone...

But it's ok to excuse all the other hatred in mainstream Islam, that conflicts with your views, such as honour killing rape victims and the view of gays being an abomination?

Grow some balls, Michael.
