He will be a lame duck President as he has no political vehicle behind him and he will be forced to work with the established political parties.

His party is less than a year old and consists of the usual 'meaning wells' and 'nutjobs' that typically make up fringe parties.

France is in desperate need of reform. They need their Thatcher. However, Macron is not going to deliver that and once again highlights the problem of lack of talent in most established parties in most mature democracies.

I think that's generally what the role of President is in France. Most of the power actually lies in the parliament and prime minister - although the president does wield more power than most European Presidents.

I don't think they can actually force laws on the country without parliamentary approval.

He or she chooses the PM and the ministers so is quite powerful. You're right to say they can't force laws without parliamentary approval. If a supportive assembly is in place then the President is very influential and can set policy.

I agree with all of that.

However, someone like Corbyn comes along with many (not all) policies aimed at upsetting the status quo and all you can do is mock......

Unless the only thing about "mainstream politics" you don't like is the lack of a brick wall across all points of entry to the UK?

I don't think the majority want a terrorist apologist,CND supporting 70's throwback with an obsession for manholes as an alternative.

Yeah but in the same way that the Queen appoints parliament. Its ceremonial, if the President refused to appoint a democratically elected French government and prime minister, it'd be the president that went...

A gentle reminder of what one far-right party was capable of 8-10 years down the line from gaining power. Marine Le Pen will not always be their leader over the Channel

I don't think any of those are really relevant to the Labour Parties Policies. I do think however that he is unelectable - but the focus seems to be all about Corbyn rather than the policy.

I don't like that kind of popularlism politics.

Technically the Nazi party weren't all that far right, and the situation was radically different. Usually the situation is that Far Right parties remain strong until they're elected, and then fail spectacularly.

You say that but his rejection of the nuclear deterrent is very much a serious matter for voters. There are also many who remember how his brand of politics went before Thatcher and Blair.
It might be flippant to dismiss him as a clown but not far from the political truth.
