I wouldn't worry, the homophobic element at Palace will soon find out the hard way. There is so much attention paid on the Premier League. Say what you like, it is up there with racism for those that are LGBTQ. Having that thing a lot of football fans miss, a shred of empathy, and you would see that. There have been behind closed doors bans for racism across the football world. I would not be surprised for one second if it happened for homophobic chants, and that IS what they are.

Not everyone is intelligent or mature enough to disseminate what is "a bit of a laugh" from what is bigotry. Is a 10-year-old boy going to understand that homophobic chanting is in fact not an insult but actually being done by kind-hearted folk who are just on a jolly? Or how about the group of friends that wear velcro shoes to avoid the intellectual challenge of putting their footwear on each morning; will they understand the subtle nuances of the chants? Naive?! It's the perspective of someone who has been on the receiving end of abuse. To think that the use of the word in a derogatory context is not homophobic is naive. We like to sugar coat stuff as 'banter' but at the end of the day it is beyond that. If Brighton was known more for having a large Muslim community would be ok to chant anti Islamic "banter"?
